Oooh, Fence Sitter, I like your interpretation of Lehi's Dream!

OH! I saw Nirvana in concert about 1993. :D

You just keep slaying me. The avatar. The location. Now, this--one of the few live music regrets I have in life, never having seen Nirvana play live, and you got to in 1993 when they'd have had released all their music (except for what came out posthumously).

You are the minx.

No box can hold me.

Guess what?!?! Two of the band members started making out with each other as an "F you" to our state over an anti-gay marriage thing. I was totally scandalized at the time. HAHAHAHA!!!! (ok, now I am all worried that I am remembering a different concert. Sheez. I might have to go dig around for ticket stubs later)

The real message of the dream is one of fear.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

I've come to this thread a little late. I do want to wish you my heartfelt congratulations, just me, at being able to move to a place where you are happier!

I think of religious doctrines as armor we put on for protection. It's heavy and cumbersome, but it feels like it's holding off the arrows. It's very scary to take it off.

When we do take it off, we can run much faster and jump much higher. We realize that no one was shooting arrows at us, anyway.

I'm happy for you!

And I think of religous doctrine as quite freeing and exhilerating.

I guess it depends on the doctrine.

Or do distinctions matter at all?

Maybe you're just used to the weight of the armor and won't notice the freedom until you take it off.

Quasi, you're right on time! I love the feeling you evoked in me with your armor analogy. I can't really describe it, but it is awesome. To be open and light and find that there is nothing coming at you after all.

What would this place be without Just Me? Seriously, what?

It would be less interesting, less fun, and we would be hearing more buzzing of the fluorescent lights above us in this place. Just Me brings the chandelier and the disco ball.

Anyway, that didn't really address the OP. As always, I wish you peace in this very interesting and on-going journey!

Have a good day,

Zee.

The Wizard of Dry Hump wrote:I knew that just me was heading out the door ages ago. It was written all over her posts. This is why I disagreed with liz that she and some others on this board are active Mormons. This board has very little true blue Mormons on it and it is reflected in their posts.

It is reflected in posts like those advocating that believing, unmarried Mormons have dry sex in their underwear, or that looking at pornography is okay for ostensibly believing Mormons.

Leaving the church is not hard if one does not believe. It is just a matter of walking out the door and not looking back.

The LDS church does not tell people how to live life. They advise people how to live life and one can choose to do it or not. It is really that simple. And at the end of the day, no one is totally free to do life the way they wish to do it. We have wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, children, bosses all telling us what we need to do and when we need to do it. No one is free, not even the hermit living in the wilderness is free.

I see that meta-cognition is not one of your strong suits.

I am glad that she is finally being honest. And that is important: to put your cards on the table for all to see.

How did that talk with your bishop go when you told him that young single adults should dry hump in their underwear and watch porn?

But lets face it, she remained silent in sunday school or in any other meeting because she needed to find opportunities to support her disbelief and in this case it was with the people who made comments.

Totally agree. If you need an opportunity to support your disbelief, just listen to what believing Mormons say.

Just Me, the hard part of what you're dealing with ironically came from Why Me:

"And at the end of the day, no one is totally free to do life the way they wish to do it. We have wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, children, bosses all telling us what we need to do and when we need to do it. No one is free, not even the hermit living in the wilderness is free."
