Because the Bishop has the keys to direct the sacrament meeting, and the Bishop chose revelation as the topic. Are you suggesting the Holy Ghost ignores the order of the priesthood?

A pearl of great price, indeed! And yet they esteemed it as of a thing with no value. Truly it does not do to cast pearls before swine.

Ugh, I hate that pearls before swine thing. MADdites use it all the time to get away with calling critics swine to their faces.

Since this brother was on the verge of apostasy brought on by sinning it seems that revelation was working properly.

Imagine the faith-promoting stories that would have been generated if the speaker, after forgetting the assigned topic, had prayed and received a prompting that the topic was revelation and had then given a talk on it. It would have confirmed for the speaker and all the believers that revelation is real (and not that the guy's memory had just kicked in).

If the speaker had been really clever, her could have turned the whole thing into an object lesson: "I was assigned to speak on revelation but rather than just quote old GA talks on the subject, I decided to put the principle into practice, so I prayed and the Holy Ghost told me to give a talk on repentance." Two birds, one stone, he looks spiritual instead of stupid. Of course, that would also have been a somewhat insolent thing to do, and we couldn't have that now, could we?

No, I am suggesting the HG knows more about what God wants than either of them. I think it more likely the Bishop had it right, but again, you still don't know if the HG gave the speaker the wrong topic or not.

Fun to do a little Jujitsu and turn it against them, though.

So you ARE suggesting the Holy Ghost ignores the order of the priesthood. Interesting, coming from such a hardcore legalist.

Why would the HG go contrary to the will of God even if someone holding the priesthood stated otherwise?
