More and more meetings for the teens

Last night they invited all seminary ages teens and their parents for a special Seminary Centennial broadcast. It was about 1/3 talks about seminary and 2/3 BKP telling the youth that never acting upon those alone-time feelings will keep you not guilty. He spoke about urges and gender and how you should never tamper with those life giving powers of your body.

It seems as if at least once a month there is some ward, stake or worldwide broadcast for the teens to attend on Sunday nights. I have heard that a certain SP prepares a message and a meeting once a month and that he often calls up teen aged boys to the stand to declare that they are going on a mission. I can only assume that he calls up teen aged girls to declare that they intend to only marry in a temple to a boy that serves an honorable mission.

I tell you what, if I was a teen and I had 3 hours of Church Sunday, and I then had to come back later that night to listen to a geriatric man talk to me about masturbation, I’d be pretty angry.

I wonder if these kinds of talks put limits on learning for the kids?

I am making up for lost time. I'm sitting here at 10:37 PM pinning up all kinds of images that I finally feel okay looking at. After all these years! There was an evening when I sneaked my sister's fashion magazine into my room and started looking at it. My dad came into my room and I tried to throw it under my bed but he noticed. I was caught and I felt horrible. He didn't really care but after talking to my mother about it, came back into my room and proceeded to give me a very long talk about how I shouldn't look at that "girly pictures".

It has been many years since then, believing with all my heart that the wimpy Holy Ghost freaks out if I look at interesting images. Now I look and I'm not afraid of Richard G. Scott or Boyd anymore. Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Paul Newman, James Dean, LBDs, Annette Vadim, Grace Kelly, and sunglasses in aston martins. Not only do I look freely, I love it. Yes, I look at it all and I don't wonder to myself, "Does this offend the Holy Ghost"?

It would seem that the strength and frequency and duration of the messages to teens is directly proportionate to the speed and volume with which 18 to 30 year olds turn to inactivity.

In other news, which would seem to be more damaging to the sexuality of young men: hanging pictures of a 30 year old Farrah Fawcett on their wall (or 30 year old Harrison Ford for the gay young men of the church :)) or an 80 year old Gordon Hinkley?

I do believe they intend to occupy more time of LDS teens for the sake of holding on to the greatest source of future revenue. While I don't remember the exact wording, clearly BKP wanted to convey to the youth that the thoughts and actions of alone time can be very dangerous. I do understand your fascination with what is considered physical beauty and I see how recognizing it as a faithful LDS member can be skewed or suppressed. The church has always wanted the youth to believe that the greatest beauty to find in this life is a dedication and love for church and testimony. This of course will result in serving a mission and marrying in the temple to someone who also has a dedication and love for the church and testimony.

God, is he still on about that? Methinks the lady doth protest too much. He seems to spend a lot of time thinking about the bodies of young people and what they do with them.

If they try to uphold and defend and live in a so-called same-sex marriage situation. To permit such would be to make a light of a very serious and sacred foundation -- God sanctioned marriage and its very purpose in rearing the families."

President Hinckley was speaking for the Church. The first gift that Adam and Eve received was agency. Thou mayest choose for thyself, for it is given thee. You have the same agency. Use it wisely. Deny acting on any impure impulse or unholy temptation that may come into your mind is a blessing. Just do not go there. If you’re already there, come back out of it. Deny yourselves of all ungodliness. Do not tamper with the life-giving powers in your body, or with members of either gender. It is a standard of the Church, and it will not change.<

Packer looks like Jabba the Hut and sounds like Bob Dylan. I should have put him on my Celebrity Dead Pool list this year. He's not likely to see the year 2013.

I guess some liberal Mormons are upset by the thought of their kids having to listen to his bigoted belchings. But he didn't get to the above quoted material until minute 42 of the broadcast. My guess is there were very few teenaged ears paying any attention whatsoever to this doddering old fool by that time. I'm guessing there were lots of furious avians being catapulted into precariously perched barrels during the meeting such that this message just sort of floated out into the ether.
