Anti Mormonism is ugly.

Not everyone who is involved in that competition is an anti-Mormon. There are supporters of the Church involved as well! Did you even bother to read the link and see what the competition was all about?

Also, I would hardly classify Runtu or Ms. Jack as anti-Mormons. Being critical of some of Church policies and being anti-Mormon are two very different things. I thought you were smarter than that, BC.

I also thought you had more class. You have always maintained that we should be able to debate issues, and yet still be able to "break bread" afterward. Why the turnaround?

Thank you! And thank latterdaymainstreet.com, too.

Anti Mormonism is ugly.

I said it once, and I will say it again...BCspace(cadet), I love that you are a defender of Mormonism and I wish more people like you were defending the LDS church. All these mugwumps (noms/fence-sitters/active-non-believers) are allowing insecure, born-in-the-covenant believers and thoughtful individuals looking for a relationship with deity a place in your church - stand strong! Tell them that they don't understand momo doctrine, don't let these non-celestrial-going individuals into your club..... You need to tell them that they have no place in your "religion".

You need to beat them down and tell them that they don't understand LDS "doctrine". You need to stand up for yourself....don't be such a wuss, tell people in real-life what you tell people on the internet. I don't think you can as you are possibly the most insecure person that I have ever met on the internet...but, anyway, thanks for being who you are.

I would like to point out that the "cronies" word is what made BC's comment "ugly".

This whole board was very supportive of your sister when she entered that singing competition, and she is not even a member of the board! We were supportive because it was something important to you.

We are a community here. I think you owe Runtu and the others here an apology.

I don't expect or need an apology. The person who runs that site (and the competition) is a good friend of mine, and her interest has always been in promoting LDS-related literature and art, whether faith-promoting or not (she didn't nominate me, by the way). The competition is her way of getting exposure for people who are doing good things in that area, and I'm honored that someone thinks my book is worthy of mention.

That anyone would think my book is anti-Mormon saddens me, and I was a little taken aback by bcspace's hostile response. But, it's not my concern. I doubt he would bother finding out anything about my friend's efforts. That's too bad.

So, do you think my book is yellow journalism and/or a veiled attack on anything? Just curious.

Congratulating friends for gaining recognition for their work is of worth because it's a nice thing to do. I'm proud of my friends and I'm happy they're receiving the accolades they deserve. That would be true even if I passionately disagreed with whatever they had written in the piece being recognized.

Not that I expect you to do something just because it's nice, or even to recognize the value in niceness. I'm just explaining this because I think it might be useful for you to know where the rest of the human race is coming from.

Sort of off-topic, but the other night, one of my wife's missionary companions called to tell us how much she and her husband had enjoyed my book. Her husband was my zone leader in the mission and is currently a bishop. I said I was a little worried that people would be put off by my direct approach to the story, but I thought it was important to tell the story as honestly and openly as I could. She said that the honesty was what made it good, as sugar-coating it or downplaying things would have just seemed phony. She said that the book really captured our missionary experiences, both the good and bad.

That's the kind of response I was hoping for, and everyone who was actually there in Bolivia with me has responded very positively to the book. That means a lot to me.

Your kidding right. bcspace is only a troll these days.

You have always maintained that we should be able to debate issues, and yet still be able to "break bread" afterward. Why the turnaround?

I have seen little substance from him. I heard he use to try years ago, but that is what happens to most believers here after learning they don't know what they thought they did.
