Firefox vs IE

Post by _MCB »

I just switched to Firefox because the new versions of IE are not compatible with Windows 2000. And they recommended 2000 for my elderly laptop.

What problems might I expect with Firefox? My son tried it years and years ago and I didn't like it.

Firefox used to be my preference but the latest IE is actually pretty damn fast and stable. I never thought I would convert to IE....

Chrome is my next fav after IE.

Yeah I had Chrome when I was running Ubuntu. I liked it. I think there also compatibility problems with 2000 there, too, but not sure.

Chrome, or when possible Safari.

IE is the most common and hence the most hacked. Running IE is akin to asking for malware.

Can't do Chrome on 2000. Safari is a new one. I don't know anything about it.

I am not very worried about getting hacked. I have my resources and work on flash-drive, and never have flash and internet going at the same time. No $$ transactions online, either.

MCB,
not having the USB in while browsing means nothing. A rootkit will sit on your system and do its thing. Some rootkits seeing the USB drive become available will write malware to it. Then it gets transferred to the next system it is mounted on. Some will log all of your keystrokes and then pass your passwords to an outside host.

Running an 8 year old unsupported OS isn't going to help either. Throw Ubuntu on the laptop and upgrade to chrome. Auto apply patches.

I don't have the tech knowhow to put Ubuntu back on.

However, my brother recently sent me an e-mail saying he had received an e-mail which led him to suspect I had been hacked. I have recently changed my e-mail password, yet again.

Firefox only.

You just switched? Where have you been? Only completely out of the loop dinosaurs who don't know any better use IE.

My IE just crashed today. Just adding a data point for your decision analysis.
