If this is one politics then perhaps the painting would have a special appeal.

That consideration makes me remember a short discussion about the influence of culture on color perception. If a person is far enough right does the muddy haze which I see disappear revealing decisive color? I found myself thinking that the colors remind me of my memory of the emotional spiritual undercurrent everpresent in my experience in the Mormon church. But the color could be an attempt to reflect his apprehension and hopelessness politically. I went to his web sight and found painting both political and of the pleasant scene variety. There were paintings of the Thomas Kinkade, painter of light, school of expression. However McNaughton's versions had the same muddy depressed tonality. They were a bit lighter than his apocalytic nightmares but not a lot.

Now it is entirely possible that McNaughton is simply less skilled in color use than others. It may not be a true reflection of his emptional experience. Saying that I realize that I still have a suspicion that a true emotional reflection is what is actually happening in the paintings.

Wow. I had not thought of that angle, huckleberry. Food for thought.

Doesn't it do your heart good to see the young white guy cutting the chain so he can engage in multi-level marketing without slavish restrictions?

So the chains are symbolic of the horror of being enslaved to a black president??? Waaay too far for me.

No, McNaughton explains his painting here:

Thanks, Moksha. You made a piece of horrific kitsch an occasion for critical laughter. Nothing better.

Isn't that essentially what all those who voted for Obama did? Buyer beware......
