I do not consider the desire to improve futile. What I have a hard time understanding is the desire to go after a goal (perfection) with out understanding what the rewards are for reaching the goal.

Why would a question about perfection in the context of our discussion be odd?

Okay lets take your crystal example. I know nothing about the use of such crystals. Are you saying given two identical crystals, except for their irregularities, that each crystal will perform exactly the same under all circumstances? Please explain more about these crystals or provide me with a link where I can see this for myself.

I'm mostly over it. Just on occasion something happens that brings things into focus, as did my conversation last night. You've been involved with the post-Mormon community a lot longer than I have; I guess neither one of us has gotten over it entirely.
