Yes I disagree, nor would I call it a blight.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

I didn't read it that way. He said wipe out Mormonism, the religion..not the people.
The people would be the collateral damage.
We were taught this expression in the last decades.
- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco - To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

Anyone here disagree that the world would be better off without this blight on religion and humanity?
If you don't agree with that, you all coulda fooled me, and the amount of time you all spend here bashing Mormonism to kingdom come.
Drama queen alert.

Then you would think I would be able to go back, right? I mean, we can reasonably demonstrate that your statement is true. Since we can show it is true, why do I find it impossible to go back? Why do I worry about the harm it will cause my kids if I send them back? As things currently stand, I am the reason we aren't going back. I really want peace but I can't do it. I've tried pretending. I've tried playing pseudo insane. I've tried the darnedest things and still can't seem to believe in your statement, CK. But then, I step back to a point where you are and think to myself, "Yeah, it does more good than harm."
It's when you get up close and personal that things look different.
Hard to explain.
EDIT: you are missing your avatar, CK. I really miss the monkey with the graduation hat.

Well, 120 men, women and children from the Fancher party would have gone on to live full lives. Thousands of women would have had different husbands. Thousands of Utah gays would still be alive.

WTF?
And Ceeboo: note that I said in concept I'd like to see people give up their beliefs in what is really sheer fantasy, but in practice the fallout from that, in a great many ways, would be such that whether or not this would be a good thing overall is subject to great debate, and I have no idea what the outcome of that debate would be. I'm thereby content to confine my discussions about Mormonism to the self-selecting crowd willing to frequent a discussion board devoted to the topic.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

I'm saying thousands of gay Utah Mormons have committed suicide due to the intense guilt heaped upon them by Mormonism. It happens everywhere in America as no one seems to treat gays very well, but Mormons are particularly good at making their most sensitive members feel worthless and wracked with guilt.
Maybe I'm wrong about the number - maybe it's only hundreds. I don't have any figures.

Well, saying I think it does more good than harm is very different from saying I think people should believe in it. I'm with EAllusion. I don't think people should believe unreasonable things. But as long as people are being unreasonable, they could do a lot worse than Mormonism. That's all I'm saying.
