I thought he might have been giving the Vulcan 'Live Long and Prosper' sign...

My thoughts, exactly.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Why is it assumed he is a church elder?
I thought it was a defense attorney, or an insurance salesman.

A defense attorney? I suppose he could be saying, "have your brother renew my retainer and I can try and get you another hearing."
I am not sure what purpose that conversation would serve.
I am still wondering if there is a normal Mormon concept creating a role for a blessing as presented. I understand the help of an individual helping to carry the cross. That blessing represents a role we have.

McNaughton's attempted cover art for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band II was a good try.

I'm just wondering where the pagan Roman soldiers are with their whips and swords. I saw The Passion of the Christ damnit and there were Roman soldiers!

I think the missionary scared them off.

Or they're too busy flaying the skin from his conversion-oriented companion's back.
