I give you this Book with this admonition: Make it the man of your counsel; live every day as if it were to be the last, and you will have no need to fear what your future shall be."
Willie you are talking about J.S. III correct? Not J.S. Jr.
Emma, in my opinion, was in it for her family. She supported J.S.Jr as long as he was alive and supporting her. After his death her support of him only extended to those areas that were critical to her kids of whom she was very protective.
by the way did you know that after the death of Joseph Smith Jr. BY sent John Taylor to give her &1000.00 between the time that Rigdon gave his succession speech in the morning and when By gave his in the afternoon?
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Yeah, should have made that more clear. Seems odd that a lady that was so closely associated with the gold plates would think so little of the Book of Mormon
It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent. Bruce R. McConkie

She was a big fan of the Book of Mormon when it was providing her with a big house, a nice carriage, watches, nice clothes and a prominent social position. BY was not offering much of that, so she elected to stay in Nauvoo, as did Luck Mack Smith.

Also within two weeks of Lucy Mack Smith's death, Emma Smith Bidamon and Lewis Bidamon sold the four mummies and papyri to a traveling salesman no less. Another odd thing to do if they really considered the papyri as the writings of Abraham by his own hand.

Wasn't Lucy Mack too frail to travel?
I am not really sure what Lucy's reasons were for staying with Emma instead of following BY. She did live for another 12 years or so. I would suspect that her son William had something to do with her not following BY.
