Huh?

He's referring to a Mormon saying that, "One the Prophet has spoken, the thinking is done." Ex-Mo's love to point to this saying as proof that the LDS church is anti-intellectual and against dissent. For the most part this is a correct observation when applied to the LDS church. I really have no idea why this is to be applied to you, I can only guess that Mr. Chap feels you are condescending and think too highly of yourself, much like an LDS prophet.

I guess if I had unhinged my jaw and deep throated Maher for his unoriginal and unfunny brilliance for a revisiting a well worn trope, I’d have avoided the charge of condescending arrogance.Image

If large numbers of Maher's viewers agree with your taste in humor, his show won't last very long on TV, will it?

(Could it be that humor is one of the areas of human activity where any kind of dogmatic judgment amounts to assuming the mantle of authority where authority is simply out of place? Maybe.)

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Why does it bother you that we don’t like Maher? If people can post about how funny and great he is, it follows that people can post about how he sucks at everything he does.

Then why focus in on negative judgements and ignore positive ones?

Maher sucks. His humor is very hit and miss and the quality of his thinking is way out of proportion to the sneering condescension he likes to adopt.

He's also into all manner of HuffPo style pseudo-scientific ideas and makes for a highly imperfect flag bearer for rational skepticism. In fact, he's contributing to a public misunderstanding of science and scientific thinking on one of the most vital subjects for people - medicine.
