Schmo,

Point me to a post where I constructed a crude strawman of any faith.

Once a Mormon, always a Mormon I guess?

How about this Sport, think to yourself, “ Hmmmmm, what topic would I like to have a reasonable conversation about…” Then go find something to read/listen to about that topic. Have fun.

ETA: Leave my relationships out of this.

Hey, I didn't bring up your 'relationships', you did.

My request for a list of approved books comes from your apparent belief that until one has acquired a proper level of education, his opinions are invalid, so no... not 'once a Mormon, always a Mormon'.

After all, if they can't meet their intellectual peers here, where can they go? Whereas you or I could satisfy our humble needs in Mo's bar anytime.

You should treat your betters with the respect they deserve. After all, think of the risks you are running by your continual levity: remember what a gaping wound Droopy inflicted on us all when his patience finally snapped. And whatever you do, don't giggle.

You make some fine points.

But if we fear the intellectual terrorists, don't they win?

I'm asking, because it isn't part of this conversation, but hey, do what you got to do. I won't ask again.

When I write things like, "Go read a book on a topic that interests you", do you see, “Ask me what books you should read". If not, why keep asking this question?

Well....

Because I’m tired of being mistaken for some crusading dawkfag like you becoming a poster boy for village atheism. Same reason Aristotle Smith gets frustrated with guys like Ray Comfort and people who parrot him saying stupid s***, I’ve got my web toed fundies like you who want to set up an echo chamber where we all sit around and massage prostates because another poster with extra chromosomes posted a stupid picture with words on it.

Besides being a raging tool, this says you typically don’t have anything relevant to say on religious topics, and usually get into pissing matches with theists because they object to your over simplified characterization. When someone tells you to actually read a book, you and the blow buddies do the whole, “WELL I GUESS I NEED A PHD TO POST HUH” when all that is being suggested is you read a book on the topic.

So when you say hypocrite, I’d like to see a case of it.

But you won’t.

That's because you're under the mistaken impression that I feel the need to prove anything at all to you. It's part of what makes you a qualified rider of the short bus. I could draw on all the instances of your hypocrisy in the world, but you've already shown that accepting (or even considering) other people's perception is not in your repertoire of cognitive abilities (I'm starting to wonder what actually is).

What are you still doing here? Go see the doctor before that ass stick penetrates more of what little brain you've got left!

When I read this kind of thing, I am reminded of a sketch show I once saw in which a character said "When I go to the cinema, I don't want to see a lot of sex and violence. I can get all that at home."

Similarly, when I visit a discussion board like this - and the Terrestrial forum to boot - I don't come here for a reading list. I come here essentially for conversation, and in conversation you can't have footnotes, and you have to make arguments and set out your evidence in the here and now, without sending your interlocutors off on reading tasks before they are allowed to continue the dialog. It's not easy to do that well, and some people here are really good at it.

But if I can't get that, I'll settle for people talking about their own experiences, or just plain laughs. I'm such a lowbrow.
Zadok:
I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.
Maksutov:
That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
