You know how people complain that Heavenly Father should not have allowed his son to be murdered? Hang on. Here I go again. Maybe nobody has said that and it's just me. Let me start over.
I used to think it was pretty unfortunate that Heavenly Father had to allow some Roman guys to pound spikes into his son's flesh and hang him up on a wood stake.
But this morning I was reading about Persephone and how she was abducted. Wow, I thought, She was a goddess - a daughter of Zeus, who was taken away against her will and against the will of Zeus. What if the Crucifixion was like this too? What if HF tried to stop his son from being murdered but failed in his attempts? in my opinion, this makes the story so much more romantic.
Maybe HF tried to save Jesus but couldn't?

I am not sure what to make of this suggestion at present, but wanted to drop by if only to applaud you for your ability to ask excellent and thought-provoking questions.

That must have been how the apostles saw it, too. A guy that they had given up their lives for was allowed (by God) to be crucified. What's up with that? Some quick rationalization and the answer became apparent. God needed to make a sacrifice of his son (or Avatar, depending on how you see it) to atone for the world's sins. No simple lamb sacrifice would do to atone for everyone's sins. It had to be the son of God or God himself (depending, once again, on how you view it).But this morning I was reading about Persephone and how she was abducted. Wow, I thought, She was a goddess - a daughter of Zeus, who was taken away against her will and against the will of Zeus. What if the Crucifixion was like this too? I think Zeus was in on it. He told Hades to abduct her instead of going to Demeter and asking for her hand (she would have refused). Demeter (rightfully P*ssed) stopped the growth of all plants and put the world into permanent winter. A compromise was reached and Persephone only spends four months with Hades out of the year (winter), giving us spring, summer and fall to grow crops.
One story is a myth of salvation to explain the crucifixion and death of a God. The other is sort of the opposite. A myth that uses a goddesses death to explain winter.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

And the hope of rebirth from the underworld. A happy Orpheus?

A less happy Eurydice, though.

Thanks Quas for the correction. I need to get studying!
Something I've had to ask a number of times: Why did you choose me to translate the Phaistos Disc? I'm far from being a scholar. I'm not even a poor farmboy!

Sorry Z. I didn't mean it as a correction. Just a continuation of your thought.

Well, I really didn't know about the things you mentioned. Thanks for bringing it up. I'm serious when I say I have a lot of studying to do. That is a good thing!
