I wonder how Reagan would've reacted to a Republican administration embracing torture which, once confirmed, led to a rather rapid acceptance of torture among a majority of Republicans and their media outlets. Reagan was vociferously anti-torture. His anti-communism was wrapped up in ideas about why we're better than the commies that included the fact that we don't torture. That the Nazis wanted to surrender to us instead of the Soviets because we treated prisoners humanely and fairly was a point of pride. He was adamant about prosecuting torture and made it an administrative priority in foreign relations. I could see him in a serious battle with the modern party over that issue alone.

Then it should be a simple matter to point out some specific policies and inititatives that would demonstrate the truth of such a claim.

And this was back in 2008, when he was playing it more liberal to get elected.

Specific policies? His very conservative, market approach to healthcare reform. His foreign policy and the way he continued to prosecute the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. His pro-business initiatives. Just because he occasionally throws a bone to average Americans doesn't make him a communist.

As nothing remotely resembling what any intellectually reasonable human being would describe as "torture" ever occured at Gitmo or Abu Ghraib, why continue on with these old discredited shibboleths from the neo-Marxist, neo-communist, anti-American anti-war movement of the last ten years? You continue to claim you are not a leftist, and yet, as often as not, you talk like a dues paying member of Code Pink. This kind of Michael Mooreist argument just screams "intellectually non-serious" Elusion. You need to take a closer look at the origin and provinance of your beliefs here and think about them first.

There are two possibilities here, Bluffalo, the first being that you are knowingly and brazenly lying to me and everyone else here, to their faces, and cackling loudly as you do it as you see some falling for it as you realize you can actually get away with that here among a number of people. The motive for doing so would be a bit opaque, but, as a leftist, not at all uncommon in the pursuit of defense of your ideology which, without outright deception, is virtually impossible to defend rationally.

The second is that you actually believe your own surrreal fantasties, fantasies so easily discredited by easily pointed out facts and logical argument, that a strong temptation exists to chalk you up as a drone who is unfortunatly bereft of the intellectual capacity to even engage political issues such as this at all.

Liberalism/Leftism is the ideology and political home of two groups within society: the Morlocks and the Eloi. Anyone falling between those to poles; intelligent, educated, economically and psychologically independent, personally responsible, and morally literate, have no use for leftist doctrine, and no desire to give away either there liberty or their humanity to its demands for conformity to the doctrine of the hive.

1. John McCain was tortured (and this actually was torture) by the North Vietnamese communists, not the American military.

2. "Waterboarding" cannot be, by any stretch of the imagination, understood as "torture" in any sense of that term as would normally be understood by reasonable people. It doesn't even enter the ballpark.

John McCain was waterboarded, and he considered it torture. I'm not sure what difference it makes who does the torturing.
