The Church doesn't exactly make it easy to leave.

Utah Mormon has faith crisis
Tries to work through it
Goes to FAIR, FARMS
Disturbed by the very poor answers to tough questions
Learns even MORE disturbing information from FAIR & FARMS
Investigates further, struggling to make sense of it all
Finally concludes that the church is not what it claims to be
Feels betrayed that he never learned any of this stuff, even in advanced institute courses at BYU
Comes out to wife about conclusions
She assumes he's hiding some deep dark sin
Family turns against him
Friends abandon him
Wife divorces him
Ward gossips about him, speculating that he must have committed adultery
LDS employer learns of his disaffection, fires him
Utah ex-Mormon, now very angry, writes some criticism of the church online.

Internet Mormon response: WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LEAVE THE CHURCH ALONE??!!

I like The Nehor's reason:

I'm gonna go with Joseph Smith's explanation that the witness of the Holy Ghost cannot lightly be cast aside.

LOL. Yeah, that's it. It's the Holy Ghost. Whenever I read a post from Sethbag or Some Schmo or Buffalo or any other "avowed apostate" I can sense that the witness of the Holy Ghost is still tugging at them. That's why they continue to post here. Another bullseye for Joseph Smith. LOL.

Bingo! If your family is heavily involved, it is not something you can just walk away from.

What's funny is that I continue to feel the "Holy Ghost" just as frequently now as when I was a believer. Actually more since my cog dis levels are down. I guess that must mean God approves of my atheism, since the "Holy Ghost cannot dwell in unclean tabernacles."

Let me answer with a question:

Why do they keep showing reruns of Seinfeld?

(Note: the question assumes that you think Seinfeld is funny.)

Because few people are the masters of their domain.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Have those MDD people ever considered that the atheists here are on a mission from God?

My guess is that Ex-Mormoning becomes a life style.

True. But when you do walk away and take those giant steps into freedom it feels like Tony the Tiger said, "Grrrrrreat"!

I'm glad I stuck it out as long as I did. It was the only way to make my former marriage work and provide a homelife for my three kids until they were grown. But when the Mormon lights went out it was time to start my new life. Liz, I'm getting 2 lives for the price of 1. It's really neat. I got to live the perfect Mormon life and now I'm living the wild gay life! What a contrast. It's like coming to earth and getting two golden opportunities to experience life in two different ways. Two shows for the price of one! I love it.

Isn't it amazing? Hell, I love those peacefull warm feelings that just wash over me. I've had so many of them since leaving the church. I used to crave them while in the church and pray earnestly for them and once in a while I'd get them but they weren't very strong. Now they just come all the time and wash all over me. It feels great. Really, the holy ghosty feelings are just a way to connect with the universe of love and goodwill. Good people everywhere have them all the time. It has nothing to do with religion or getting hands laid on your head. The laying on of hands is all about control and collecting money for priestcraft that presides over the church.

Feelings of love and spirit is all about loving everyone and everything.
