Helen Cohen's first paragraph descrbing the overall background of the incident is instructive:

After determining that a preschooler's homemade lunch was not healthy enough, a state worker required her to purchase a meal from the school cafeteria. The result was that instead of eating a turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice, the student ate three chicken nuggets for lunch. According to the Carolina Journal, the state employee (who inspects each students lunch box) determined that the meal packed from home did not meet USDA nutrition standards.

As the Left and the god it worships, the state, moves from strength to strength in matters both large (national security, the broader economy) as well as in matters seemingly trivial (the foods our children are allowed to eat in school and whether or not they are correctly nutritious according to the standards of a government agency) and absorbs and encompasses ever more aspects of our lives, The prophetic words of DeToquville should be ringing ever louder in our ears by the day, as our liberties wither:

I see an innumerable multitude of men, alike and equal, who turn about without repose in order to procure for themselves petty and vulgar pleasures with which they fill their souls. Each of them, withdrawn apart, is a virtual stranger, unaware of the fate of the others: his children and his particular friends form for him the entirety of the human race; as for his fellow citizens, he is beside them but he sees them not; he touches them and senses them not; he exists only in himself and for himself alone, and, if he still has a family, one could say at least that he no longer has a fatherland.

Equality has prepared men for all of these things: it has disposed them to put up with them and often even to regard them as a benefit.

After having taken each individual in this fashion by turns into its powerful hands, and after having kneaded him in accord with its desires, the sovereign extends its arms about the society as a whole; it covers its surface with a network of petty regulations—complicated, minute, and uniform—through which even the most original minds and the most vigorous souls know not how to make their way past the crowd and emerge into the light of day. It does not break wills; it softens them, bends them, and directs them; rarely does it force one to act, but it constantly opposes itself to one’s acting on one’s own; it does not destroy; it prevents things from being born; it does not tyrannize, it gets in the way, it curtails, it enervates, it extinguishes, it stupefies, and finally it reduces each nation to nothing more than a herd of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd.

Welcome to post-American America, the America of Obama, the Democrat party, and its armies of "state workers" across countless admistrative bueacracies seeing to it that all is nutritionally and regulatorily correct among Americans and their children. As we follow the U.K. and E.U. into the abyss, one can only wonder how the Lord will ultimately look upon our "great apostasy" from the blessings of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness he has blessed us so abundantly in which LDS doctrine tells us was a major aspect of the preparation for the restoration of the gospel.

RAEFORD — A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious.

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.

The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs — including in-home day care centers — to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.

The home-made lunch having been ruled illegal by officials, the preschooler was given a federally-approved lunch, for which her mother has been sent a bill. The girl didn’t care for the substitute lunch, ate only the three chicken nuggets, and left everything else on her tray untouched. It may not have worked out all that nutritious for her, but at least it’s compliant with DCDEE/DHHS/USDA paperwork, and that’s what matters.

The ultrasound requirement may evoke images of the abdominal sonograms standard in most pregnancies, fuzzy black and white pictures conjured by a wand passed across a woman’s stomach.

But those ultrasounds are ordinarily done fairly late in pregnancy. In the beginning, particularly the first weeks, an abdominal ultrasound may not be sensitive enough to detect anything.

That’s why doctors in many cases use a transvaginal ultrasound. In plainspeak, they insert a condom-covered probe into a woman’s vagina to obtain an image.

In order to satisfy the goals of the legislation – which includes a requirement that a doctor determine the gestational age of the pregnancy- a transvaginal ultrasound may be the only reliable course.

Oh, and by the way, Sir Bluffalot, "Fascism" was not a "right wing" movement, but a sectarian offshoot of socialism, as originally concieved by Benito Mussulini, and it was never ranged against the Left except, as in for one example national socialist Germany, when two or more totalitarian systems are competing for power within one nation of political entity. Once they all settle in within their own speres of power and influence, they become allies against thier common enemy, liberal democracy (classical liberalism, or modern conservatism).

They do fight amongst themselves, but more for reasons of power and influence than doctrine, which although real, is marginal with respect to their differnces with authentic liberalism.

The left/right dichotomy isn't some distinction cleaved in nature. It's a useful fiction that helps us categorize related political views. Fascism is a right-wing phenomenon by definition because it coheres statistically to other things that, by historical circumstance, are also thought of as right-wing. It helps that the founders of fascism thought of themselves as right-wing. The real problem is that for you "left" and "right" are synonyms for "evil" and "good" and you can't handle the dissonance of something with an intense negative connotation being a right-wing phenomenon. But it like, say, McCarthyism, has that honor.

What you are referring to above is an example of authoritarian government paternalism. That's why you call it fascist, but what you really seem to be honing in on is the authoritarianism. That comes in both left-wing and right-wing flavors. If that authoritarianism is attached to things like hyper-nationalism (like making a big deal out of wearing a flag pin), xenophobia, corporatist economics, militarism, etc. then you are looking at something that is fascist.
