Nephite is apparently a loan-shift word for Mayan.

Buffalo just did. And since it has as much authority as any other apologetic theory, why not go with it?

To me, it's odd that anyone (or any organization) would brand the practice of not cutting something that grows naturally as rebellious.

Perhaps the BYU administration should consider requiring estrogen injections for male students to reduce beard growth and lessen immoral desires.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

I don't accept his apology.

I can't recall a case where I advanced semantic extension as an explanation.

Beards have not been considered rebellious by anyone outside the Mormon church since the late 80's.

I disagree. Beards remain a stumbling block for presenting many types of good messages.

I should think the picture shows Alma calling Isabel the harlot to repentance, and telling her to stop distracting Corianton.

I'm sorry, I just have not seen any examples of this outside of my Mormon circle. Even within the church, I would submit to you that the beard is not a stumbling block for presenting messages, rather, the judgmental attitude of members who have been taught that beards are somehow unholy is the stumbling block.

I love that beards are a stumbling block, but, per BYU's grooming code, creepy pedo-mustaches are, ya know, ok.

That's essentially the current apologetic.

See three of my posts up on this same page. Which missionaries are most likely to get in the door; the shaved, suit and tie wearing ones or the bearded, hemp wearing ones?
