Of all the places he could serve a Mormon mission he was sent to the French Riviera.
In May 1966, he was part of a counter-protest against a group staging a sit-in in the university administration building in opposition to draft status tests.
In July 1966, Romney left for 30 months in France as a Mormon missionary, a traditional duty that his father and other relatives had done. He arrived in Le Havre with ideas about how to change and promote the French Mission, while facing physical and economic deprivation in their cramped quarters.
Phew.
I don't even begin to know where to start with this one...

In June 1968, an automobile Romney was driving in southern France was hit by another vehicle, seriously injuring him and killing one of his passengers, the wife of the mission president.
Uh.
WHAT?? Someone want to explain this one to me??

I'm sorry, but can someone explain to me why a young Mormon missionary was alone with the MP's wife?
This doesn't make sense to me...

Perhaps its a similar story as:

Where does it say that Romney was alone with the MP's wife? Even the quote included in the 2nd post described Sis. MP as "one of" his passengers. I presume another one was his comp, but I don't know what the mission rule attitudes were like back then, so I couldn't say anything one way or the other.
Also, draft dodger? Where'd you get that? He went on a mission. I did too, and probably most of the other former TBMs on this board. So he went to the French Riviera. That's pretty cool. I went to Switzerland. Am I somehow to be suspected of dastardly doing, parleying some imaginary LDS rock star status?
Anyhow, I haven't yet seen a real issue. So far it's just pretend issues. I'm not trying to be overly rude, I just don't see what you're trying to do here.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
When it came to the Vietnam War, dodging the draft through missionary service or educational enrollment was not a bad thing.
Mitt being able to wrangle a dinner at the American Embassy only shows that he is a member of a church that knows how to get things done. Wonder if they had Beef Burgundy that evening?

The alcohol evaporates out of the beef bourguignon when cooking. It was the dessert of crème de menthe parfait that doomed him to outer darkness.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

As has been pointed out, she was one of the passengers.
The other passengers were probably A) Romney's companion, and B) the Mission President himself.
Nothing is amiss here.
