The Church promised not to do this anymore. They seem to have a very strong control of other things. I wonder if they were taking their promise seriously. It would seem easy to stop all Jewish baptisms by just being mindful of the people they baptize.
If it's not, they should have created a new system to keep their promise. There really is no excuse.

Actually, they are quite incapable of change and this will happen again. They seem to be committed to doing and saying things that are not in their best interest. They really should knock this stuff off and do it for the living and rarely for dead individuals but only in the case in which the living descendants all agree to it and within very prescribed conditions (such as have a involved ceremony in which people celebrate the person's life instead of the assembly line they have now). I know this will significantly cut down on what they can use temples for. GREAT! They can go do some community service instead with all that newly opened time and resources.

I can understand why the Church would consider excommunication for submitting such baptismal information. To be internationally embarrassed twice within one week must be infuriating.
Remember, think before you baptize!!! That includes you Logan Temple goers who baptized Mickie and Minnie Mouse, without explicit permission from the Screen Actors Guild.

Sure. But then again, there are also zealots of another kind:
Blaming ex-mormons for this gaffe seems like passing the buck. Good and earnest members can get carried away too. There needs to be screeners with equal discernment to that of Helen Radkey.
This is just another example of how the Mormon god is an impotent god. This Mormon god can't even save his own people, his own creation. He puts this burden on the backs of mortals and requires them to do it within an impotent system that is impossible to accomplish mathematically or in practice. The system is beyond flawed. It is made out to be so damn important to do properly, so important that every body part, toe nails included have to be immersed yet it is not important to the Mormon god to keep track of who has already had this done.
What kind of "god" would create such a thing? The IRS has more credibility and accountability and discernment.
Mormons need to wake up see that this joke is on them.

Are Mickey and Minnie dead? How sad.

The church, as an entity, can control what THEY submit. They can control which lists they use to create temple names.
The church does not have the ability to control what the individual membership submits. There are literally people who harvest names from cemeteries, newspapers, etc and then submit them to the temple.
Until the church figures out a way to control that, this will not end.
Since the church has only made it EASIER for this type of activity to happen, I don't see it ending soon. Although, there is talk of some new controls they would like to put in place. We shall see.

I baptized several Jews on my mission. I'm fairly certain at least one of them had a Holocaust victim as a direct ancestor. The Church has not restricted proxy work in cases like that.
