Wait. South Dakota was among the top 5? WTH?
I admit, I've never been there so I can't say this with certainty but it seems South Dakota should not be up on the list so high.
Utah really is a cool place and lots of people (non-Utahns) think so too.

Oh for shame, how the mortals put the blame on us gods, for they say evils come from us, but it is they, rather, who by their own recklessness win sorrow beyond what is given... Zeus (1178 BC)

Maybe a better title would have been "They Don't Like Mormons, They really really don't (link). I believe the aversion to Utah is solely based on the Mormon population and it theocracy.

South Dakota has Mount Rushmore. If they decided to carve 4 Presidents on a mountain in Utah, who would they choose?
I would guess Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Gordon B. Hinckley, and Thomas S. Monson. Although I would carve Hinckley and Monson into softer rock so they could be changed in the future to the most current prophets.
