Darth J, just pretend I'm not here. We just simply don't understand each other and I think it would be best if we just refrained from commenting on each others posts. And I'm not trying to be mean. I'm sure you feel your points are valid. I just fail to see how it has anything to do with my positions or anything I have stated, so I really can't respond to you.

Does anyone understand Tobin? I mean, what sense is there in all this whining (first time I've used that word here, but it fits) about William Law, while continually refusing to point to anything he said that was untrue?

And now, poor boy, he is misunderstood. Awww!

Oh, Darth understands you, Tobin. Believe it.

I’m not interested in going around and around with you, but I would be interested to know if you think there is any truth to the reasons he apostatized.

1. Joseph Smith’s sought physical violence against his enemies … yes/no
2. Joseph Smith asked him to be his substitute for his wife … yes/no
3. Joseph Smith asked him/his wife to be Joseph Smith’s wife … yes/no

Finally would a yes on any one of these justify him in a desire to expose Joseph Smith and end up outside the circle.

1. no

Because the Mormon War and the Danites make the idea ludicrous that Joseph Smith would seek physical violence against his enemies.

2. no 3 no

And no. I do not think any of these reasons are why he apostatized or why he was excommunicated (and I have stated so). This thing was driven by a nasty personality conflict and absolute distaste for polygamy.

Yes, because Joseph Smith suggesting a polyandrous marriage would be inconsistent with Joseph Smith's known behavior.

I'll take your word for it.

It is perfectly clear what I mean when I invite you to list the falsehoods stated by William Law and/or printed in the Nauvoo Expositor. You are not avoiding the issue because you don't understand it, but because you are incapable of supporting your assertions about libel (which you continually mislabel as "slander").

And I completely understand what you are saying. The problem is not miscommunication. The problem is that your reasoning is specious, your evidence is not to be found, and your arguments are sophomoric.

What was he, some kind of a weirdo?

Sometimes we don't like to face "uncomfortable truths":

In light of the cross-cultural evidence, then, the question of what kind of marriage system emanates most directly from evolved human mating psychology does not appear to be a very challenging one. That system is polygyny. Most ancestral men aspired to polygyny, even if only a minority could achieve it, while many ancestral women perceived that their own interests would be better served as the co-wife of a really impressive man than as the sole wife of a lesser one.

Are People "Naturally" Polygamous?.

Patterns of occurrence worldwide.

I think Palmer considers himself a Christian, and on that basis he would reject polygamy/polygyny. In Western society we're not very consistent, as millions have and still practice "serial polygamy". I'm not defending it, but "moral condemnations" of it don't fit the practical facts.

Actually, that is absolutely the problem. Your position makes no sense at all and so responding to you is pointless.

I state that the reason I don't find William Law credible is because he is trying to hit back at Joseph Smith. I use examples of his actions and statements. So your counter is, what did he say that wasn't true?

What is there left to say? Your position is completely idiotic. There is NO intelligent way to respond to you. So, I just ignore you.

I hate to break it to you, Tobin old boy, but DarthJ is one of the most intelligent and incisive posters on this board.

I have never seen him take a position remotely idiotic.

There is generally ONLY an intelligent way to respond to him.

And that, I think, is your main problem.

All the Best!
