You both complained that nobody would listen to you regarding the Jaredite barges.

Now we (at least STS and I) are watching the faithful at MDD as they discuss this issue and would love to hear your theories as well.

Come on guys.

Or were you not really serious?

You make a thread and post a bunch of junk the same day and expect us to immediately jump hither and thither like trained labradoodles. I just noticed this thread and I don't know if Nightlion has yet. Anyway, I am not a trained labradoodle. I just wanted to make that clear and I'll let Nightlion speak for himself. I'm sure he's got a lot he wants to discuss about Peru ruins.

I got one interesting notion that the peaked ends of the barges may have peaked downward and not upward. Somewhat like the drogue stones now thought to have hung below Noah's ark to keep it stable in rough seas. Showing here They found these stones with holes in one end all in one place near Ararat like they cut them loose before landing. Perhaps these Jaredite barges were hanging some stone as well.

This would have made them stable with a spot for ballast and a collection spot for water or waste that they could have labored to collect and toss out the top. And may be the Lord's sort of instructions as per the Ark.

I am not fond of how Drw is conducting this kid glove teasing. Wont sully himself to mount up some sort of denial that the Peruvian Ancient Culture was after the manner of Babel. Wont dispel the ample evidence that predicts a direct link between opposite sides of the earth at the very moment these events are said to have occurred. Hmm.

I personally refuse to so much as cast my eyes upon anything at the MDD board. They are an utter abomination unto me. I loathe them perfectly in their open defiance of the laws of Zion. To hell with the lot of them.

This is what got me thinking that the peaked ends pointed downward. Cut out of the mountain, (the Apocalrock) without hands by the handiwork of God Almighty depicting events in sacred history we see a representation in late afternoon light across the entire face of The Apocalrock the two major migrations of the Book of Mormon. On the right we see a sailing ship crossing to the left with a seated king and a rift between him and the more prominent heads that represent prophets. the Nephite prophets namely Lehi, Nephi, Sam, Joseph, Jacob and their line which symbolizes the drama of the Book of Mormon throughout. Laman being the king who insisted that his right to rule was paramount and causing the division of the people.

Above and to the left we see a barge with a hatch on top. Funny thing here is that the end of the barge pointed down. A large depiction of the Brother of Jared is seen more to the left on the top of the mountain. Now who is to say that this really is a Book of Mormon storyboard prepared from the foundation of the earth to witness to the unbelieving generations of our modern world that God and scripture are true?

A determinant is a secondary sign set next to the glyph to add a precise definition. The determinant that the Lord selected here in stunning relief is a warrior cutting off the head of his rival. We see this on the left side of the rock face. The last event of note that happened in the Jaredite account was Shiz having his head lopped off by Coriantumer. The first event of note in the Nephite account was Laban getting his head cut off by Nephi. What a great piece of art this is to capture in one sighting both accounts and tie them together and make an unmistakable statement to the truthfulness of both. Witnessed here of God thousands if not millions of years before either event happened. What a Great God we have in the Lord Our Righteousness!

Here is a tracing of the scene but I left Mahonri Moriancumer out because his nose was too weird at the time. But I do not mind it so much now since I have come into my own about The Apocalrock and have every confidence that the science of its discovery will fill the earth with wonder, marvelously.

Nightlion, using your method of speculation on things not mentioned in the scriptural account we can say that perhaps the Jaredite barges had sails; keels: outboard motors; satellite navigation; full plumbing systems; a cargo hold; a galley; shuffle board competitions and a celebratory drink with the Captain when landfall was spotted on the radar...

Nightlion,

Your idea of drogue stones is not bad. Drogues that look like parachutes or large cargo slings are still carried on most open ocean sailboats and are used to slow the vessel and/or help keep it pointed more or less into the wind in very rough seas.

Drogue stones used as you describe would stabilize the vessel and would probably keep it from flipping over, provided that the stones were heavy enough and depending on whether rope or cord they were suspended from could handle the tremendous shock loads imposed by a heavy sea.

If one assumes that drogues stoned were used, then they must abandon any claim that the barges could move any faster than the currents would carry them. (There would be no net forward motion from wave surfing or wind effect.)

Of course, there is no mention in the text of drogue stones or the means used to suspend them from the peaked ends of the barges. So this feature is also speculation.

Nightlion,

Thank you for the information on the ancient ruins at Caral, Peru. I spent a lot of time looking at this stuff last night and it turns out that, while the dates may be within a couple of centuries of the Jaredites, they do not match. Caral has been dated to about 2600 BC.

Also, the population needed to build something like the pyramids and associated city a Caral is unlikely to have been provided by a founding group that arrived in 8 barges on the west coast of Peru. The building of this city would have required thousands to be engaged by 2600 BC, not a few dozen shipwrecked seafarers (who, according to the Book of Ether. had not even arrived by 2600 BC).

The chronology that does match very well with the evidence is that from the mainstream scientific work that shows, based on the archaeological and genetic evidence, that the founding populations for the New World migrated from Siberia through Beringia to North America starting some 30,000 years and were well on their way toward South America by about 12,000 years ago.

The Clovis culture, for example, first encountered in New Mexico, has been studied since the 1930's and the time frame for this in the New World culture is now well established at 10,900 to 11,500 radio carbon years ago, as described in Science in 2007.
http://www.sciencemag.org/content/315/5815/1122.abstract

This timeline would have put humans in the Caral area in plenty time for them to develop the cultural need for cities, as described in the BBC series you referenced, and plenty of time to generate the population needed to build it.

As to the proposed links back to Egypt, the only real link is that some of the building was going on at the same time. As pointed out by the BBC series, such ancient city building civilizations developed in several places around the world during approximately the same time frame.

So, once again, unless I missed something, the evidence for the mainstream scientific narrative for the ruins at Caral is much better than the non-existent evidence for a founding population that crossed the Pacific Ocean from the Middle East in eight unpowered barges.

Your last statement is good advice.

This post leaves me speechless.

No, really.
