I love Fremont Street! (and the shark at the Golden Nugget)

Me too, Harm. Next time I go to Vegas, I'm either staying at the Golden Nugget, or at Planet Hollywood--which is the best located hotel on the Strip.

I think there is a good chance that some of the new shop owners will be begging in front of their shops. There is usually a rapid turn over of renters in a new mall. The guy with the Temple Garment shop will probably do OK, though.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

This has been an increasing problem for photographers of all kinds over the last decade or so: the harassment of photographers by uninformed security across a variety of public and quasi-public spaces, especially in the UK. In response there has been a lot of activism and education around photographer's rights. Here are a couple of examples of downloadable "bust cards" that have been found useful:

Another example of photographer's rights education can be found at Photojojo, "The Ten Legal Commandments of Photography."

Shopping malls are usually construed as public spaces if they invite the public in for purposes other than strictly shopping. And I suspect no one is going to expect me to gain City Creek Mall Management approval if I want to shoot photos. I think the wording is just there so there is a pretext for strong arming anything that crosses the Mall's unstated PR boundaries. This is the case with most Malls, but I expect City Creek might be a bit more sensitive about some things related to the local culture.

I'm sad so much of Salt Lake's downtown history has been destroyed for this project. I think its a disgrace.

I didn't write that I agreed with the rule. Just that it seems to be consistent with other malls.

I'd let Blixa photograph wherever she wants!!!

Why would we want sacred shopping ceremonies to be photographed? If Church Security were to apprehend some unrighteous mall goers, why should it be available to the media? If a GA's wife were to frequent Tiffanys, why should that moment be captured on a storage chip?

If that's what they want fine, but I have not found a prohibition on taking pictures common "at the mall". And on a quick look at about 12 mall web sites in AL, CA, IL, MI, New Jersey, NY, OH and Texas I don't find a list of rules for any mall like the ones for City Creek or Mall of America. As a matter of fact I couldn't find any list of rules for any of them. I think they have to be there I just couldn't find them on any other mall website. I used a list of malls here Top 10 US Shopping Malls(Travel Channel) and here List of largest shopping malls in the United States(Wiki). All these malls must have codes of conduct but I couldn't find them listed on their websites.

ETA:

Mall of America does not prohibit photography but it does seem to be regarded with suspicion.

Under Suspicion At The Mall Of America, though I've done a lot of picture taking "at the mall" in the past I will think twice about it now.

I know, just filling you in on why others may think it's a problem.

I think the rules in the OP are pretty standard, by the way.
