I'll admit it: I've been a real dick and a douchebag when it comes to the auto-correct and smilie features. (I'm sure I've been a dick and a douchebag regarding a multitude of other things, too, but let's just focus on one thing at a time for now.)
Yes, I went overboard on the auto-correct and the smilies. Rather than try to justify myself, I'll just spare you the agony and issue a belated "I'm sorry."
I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner, but in order to make the board more "customizable" I just enabled the features that allow you to A) view smilies, and B) disable the auto-correct (a.k.a. "word censor.")
If you want to start using and viewing smilies, do nothing. They're now enabled by default, without limits, and you may use them to your heart's content. If, however, you're like me and don't want to view them, then:
- Click on User CP toward the top of the screen, underneath the words "Liar!" "Heathen!"
- Toward the left, click on Board preferences.
- Underneath that, click on Edit posting defaults.
- To the right, next to Enable smilies by default, select No.
- Click Submit.
- Once again, click on User CP toward the top of the screen, underneath the words "Liar!" "Heathen!"
- Toward the left, click on Board preferences.
- Underneath that, click on Edit display options.
- To the right, next to Display smilies as images, select No.
- Click Submit.
However, in contrast to smilies, the auto-correct is enabled by default. If you want to disable it and see all posts in their original typewritten glory--user beware--then:
- Click on User CP toward the top of the screen, underneath the words "Liar!" "Heathen!"
- Toward the left, click on Board preferences.
- Underneath that, click on Edit display options.
- To the right, next to Enable word censoring, select No.
- Click Submit.
THAT SAID, I *must* make a strict request: I've turned a blind eye to the manual bypassing of the word-censor in the Telestial Forum, (you know, when people type a "-" in front of the word to get it to show up in its unredacted state,) but since people may now disable it freely anyway, I must insist that everyone respect others' choices to either enable or disable the word-censor by not doing that anymore. In other words, even in the Telestial Forum, just type the word out since everyone who wants to read it will be able to do so anyway. Thank you.
Hopefully this will go a long way toward giving all users the MormonDiscussions.com experience they want and otherwise continue to make this board all things to all people.
