Re: Is this real? Schools can drop Sex Ed
You know what would be really edgy is if they taught something that we didn't already know how to do - I mean, I didn't need any anyone to teach me that I thought Patty Westphal was hot.
Now, teaching me that self-control in such circumstances, THAT would be edgy.
But ah well.

There was no SexEd when I was in school. I doubt it could have compared to the neighborhood kind, anyway.
Sounds like you had your own Patty Westphal.
I heard she got married and had a few children.
It wasn't Patty, but I have only cherished memories.

This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Oh, brother.
I should have been more serious on this thread.
AlmaBound, you sound like me in high school. It is fear and closed-mindedness speaking.

haha yeah I suppose.
only it's I have my own children now and I want them to think about this stuff differently.
I'm a nevermo, by the way - just thought I'd post some thoughts.
Probably drank too much tonight.
But yeah, fear mostly.

People only want local control when they think the national sentiment is against them. Local control is often called for in education because people don't want so-called 'liberal' ideas like evolution, diversity, and sex education taught to their children.
In such cases, the children are the ones who lose out. They don't get the same educational opportunities that their peers in other areas do. They don't get the same preparation for the university or the world at large.
edit: Not that this issue pisses me off or anything.

Yeah, right. Have you cruised through the poor and higher income disricts in your state? It's the upper class districts that whine like babies about local control. And they're liberals

I'm not sure what your point is.

I'm not sure that upper class = liberals. Or conservatives, either.
