If I were programming for the Church, I would've left a surprise on Helen's computer.....

Does Jesus know how to program? Maybe he could do it.

I wonder if this is in any way related to LDSToronto showing how easily the system could be bypassed.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Blocking people from submitting inappropriate names is a good move.
Blocking people from searching for violations is a cowardly move. All it does is keep them from being held accountable.

I just ran a search for Anne Frank and a few other names and everything worked just fine. I'm guessing they watch for patterns of use or something like that.

This has long been the tactic used by the church. Hide the embarrassing information from the public and change nothing in regards to safeguards against submissions.

I wonder what the threshold is to trip the system. I'm tempted to try it.

This technological safeguard was not mentioned until after LDST made public his experiment that proved the Church had done nothing to prevent it happening again.
The Church should thank LDST for his helpful security check.
The Church reads the board and reacts as a result.

Re: Church blocks whistle-blower’s access to baptism data
They've done this many times before. No big deal.
So rather than address the real issue with necro baptisms – they choose to hide the names – and penalize those searching for those names. By flagging names and restricting accounts they can continue to indiscriminately baptize. I predict that they will once again get caught with blueberry pie on their faces.
"The church is committed to preventing the misguided practice of submitting the names of Holocaust victims and prominent individuals for proxy baptism. In addition to reiterating its policy to members, the church has implemented a new technological barrier to prevent abuse of the New FamilySearch system. Anyone trying to access names that have been restricted will have their account suspended and be required to contact FamilySearch to establish their family relationship in order to have their access reinstated. Abuse of the system will result in the permanent loss of database access
