I had a mission companion who happened to be this short, fairly dark-skinned, kind of Bolivian looking guy. When we got to the part in our little flip books that had the photo of Jesus, he made a point of emphasizing that this was in fact
exactly what Jesus really looked like. People would usually argue with us along the lines you do here, but he emphasized that we have apostles who have really seen Jesus, and this painting was done with the inspiration of the priesthood, and that the people who hang out with Jesus confirmed that the painting was correct.
This was an important part of his testimony. I found it weird, and a little sad.
