Mary, you will have to forgive Why Me, he's not an active member of the Church so he can't answer some stuff knowledgeably.
Anywho, I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what Bott said that Church Leaders haven't previously stated as truth.
Anyone?

He loves his children, and they love the church. I understand why he wants to defend the beliefs. But don't understand his defending this particular belief.
I have been speaking to a very active friend this morning, who would love for the leadership to apologise for the doctrine, but wouldn't want to sign the petition because of its tone. I just wish that the active membership would have the courage to change things from within.......It's one of the disadvantages of a theocracy in my opinion. (having said that maybe there is work afoot that I know nothing about)... Who knows...

The Leaders have managed to ensure change from within is impossible.
The only method for ensuring change is to snap your wallet/purse shut until change happens. It is a well known fact that the frequency of revelation is inversely proportionate to the level of tithing received....

Maybe it's his deep and abiding hatred for black people?

An LDS bishop in the 1970's encourages a black single adult male and a white single adult male to dry hump each other in light cotton underwear.
Acceptable? Yes? No?
I would have done it. No problem having a Mormon lay with a black young lady.
I don't think that the encouragement would come. But if the feeling of compatibility is there and both wish to see if they got what it takes, why not?
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

Mary, the church has changed. All eligible males can hold the priesthood. So, what would you wish the members to do from within according to the gospel of Mary?
Now about the apology? What should the church apologize for? Not giving african americans the priesthood? I see no reason for an apology and I don't believe that one will be forthcoming. Any church that embraces political correctness is doomed to fail.
