The Nephites and the Great Apostacy

Are the Nephites ever brought up when discussing the Great Apostacy? It seems the GA is focused on events in the Old Word, with the original Christian Church. No date has been given for the GA, but the most common timeframe given is shortly after Jesus's original apostles died. Supposedly, Christ's teachings were quickly lost and corrupted and the priesthood authority was removed from the Earth. Did god forget about the Nephites? Because around this same time period Christianity was flourishing in the New World. All were converted, and peace and love reigned between the Nephites and Lamanites. Prophets were prophecying, supposedly with full priesthood authority. Christian churches (true christian churches) dotted the land from sea to shining sea. Of course, that all ended, but I've never heard the fall of the Nephites tied to the Great Apostacy. Was the genocide of the Nephites supposed to be part of the Great Apostacy? If so, the timing is off by several generations.

Doesn't matter. Different continents. Both suffered apostasy to the point that the Church was not on the earth by the time of Joseph Smith. The answer to your next question is "Did they establish a Church?"

The difficulty is that at the very same time the Old World 12 Apostles were getting themselves killed, there was an additional 12 called in the New World (see Book of Mormon). Put to one side the fact that there were 24 Apostles, and the great Apostasy doesn't happen until Mormon hides the record and clatters his clogs...
