I don't know, I wasn't there. But the question was "What has Thomas S. Monson taught?" not "Why are modern prophets important?"
I just skimmed the article, and it also doesn't identify anything Monson has taught.
I also have to say that the sacrament meeting talks were about the importance of following the prophet. When you think about it, that's a really odd thing to talk about. The average Protestant doesn't give multiple sermons about why the Bible is important, they tend to just talk about what is in the Bible. That the Bible is important is usually understood.
Actually, the Methodist church I attend is a good example. The whole Lenten theme this year is about returning to the Bible. So, there will be six sermons on the topic. But not one of them will be about why the Bible is so important. The first sermon in the series was a church wide invitation to read the Bible in 90 days. The next five have been/will be of the "Greatest Hits" variety where the preacher will hit the highlights of the Bible, presumably to bring out the most important teachings in the Bible. But notice that it's mainly talking about what's in there, not generic platitudes about why it's important.
So I would expect Mormons to do something similar, talk about all of the great things the current prophet is saying. But when he isn't saying squat, all you can do is fall back on his words being important in some generic sense. Not that they are actually important, which could be shown with examples, but that in some theoretical sense his teachings are important, should he ever decide to give any.
