smilies

Post by _zeezrom »

Dr. Shades,

I realize it is impossible to please everyone, so don't take this as a plea for change but rather a comment from the peanut gallery.

The use of smilies on this board makes it feel a little bit more like MDD.

In particular, the use of this little guy:

Really brings back the evil memories of the MDD lounge.

Zee, think of it this way: The smiley face is now laughing with you rather than against you. It has been reconditioned for gentler usage.

I agree 100%.

Although you'll still be left with the ASCII placeholders, you'll at least be spared the memory-stirring graphics themselves if you manually turn the smilies off for yourself. To do so:

  • Click on User CP toward the top of the screen, underneath the words "Liar!" "Heathen!"
  • Toward the left, click on Board preferences.
  • Underneath that, click on Edit posting defaults.
  • To the right, next to Enable smilies by default, select No.
  • Click Submit.

Give this a try and see if you like it better.

I think there is a problem with smilie number 3.

You claim it to mean "eyes rolling" whereas we believe it to be King Pharoah about to do something important to Abraham of the Old Testament.......

Give me a while to tinker with the system. Hopefully I can figure it out.

Okay, zeezrom, it looks like there's another step you need to take to turn the smilies off. In addition to the above, follow these steps too:

  • Click on User CP toward the top of the screen, underneath the words "Liar!" "Heathen!"
  • Toward the left, click on Board preferences.
  • Underneath that, click on Edit display options.
  • To the right, next to Display smilies as images, select No.
  • Click Submit.

It should work this time. I apologize for the inconvenience.
