So Droopy's response to my questions will an obvious no. No room for liberal non down the line thinkers. So Droopy I am interested in what you think the Church will look like 20 years from now if it takes your hard line view and purges the Brooks, Dehlins out of the Church.
Straight is the gate and narrow is the way. Few there be that go therein. That is the doctrine of the gospel and of Christ. Anything outside that straight gate, narrow way, and beyond the rod of iron is suspect, at best, or washed up on the shores of Babylon, and needs be left alone, as much as possible, given human frailty and our propensity to let go of the iron rod and go wandering off "on strange roads."
Yup. The fewer people believe in a religion, the more likely it is to be true.
And it's still 'strait'. Don't you read the Bible?
Zadok: I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis. Maksutov: That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
I love that expression 'held in reserve'. It works in so many contexts:
"The right to register to vote was held in reserve for people of color."
"The right to stay in the same hotel as white people was held in reserve for people of color."
The right to choose their own seats in a bus was held in reserve for people of color."
How ungrateful they were, when all the time 'we' were 'holding things in reserve' for 'them'.
Those people!
Exactly. That excuse is really handy. Priesthood positions are essentially the leadership positions in the church. What the ban for blacks was (and the ban for women is) was simply denying leadership positions to minorities. Any company would be sued for that today. But, as a religious organization, the church is exempt from discrimination laws in their callings. Consider a corporation that refused to hire or promote anyone with negro blood, or female, to any management position. And then today they announce that they are finally going to allow negroes to serve as managers (but women still can't). And then they come up with an excuse that "the management jobs being held in reserve for some people of color--- while we served them with our leadership and they were not required to serve us." It just boggles the mind how TBMs can't see how dumb these excuses are.

Stop using terms you don't understand in contexts you haven't thought about understanding.
Oh well, Joanna Brooks will eventually be pushed completely out of the church.
No, she'll just slip out of her own accord, unless she repents and returns to the gospel, accepts its truths, and follows the Brethren.
It would seem a woman of her caliber - intelligent, successful, independent, outspoken, and confident - would be embraced and held up as an example for young women. They can't keep pushing their best and brightest out of the fold.
How is apostasy an example for young woman in the Church?

Ironically, most of our ideas about God never would have come about if not for the Babylonian influence on the Jews.

Yes I understand your position and I expected you to take very hard line. So again my question to you is what should the Church do with the Joanna Brooks types? Should they be ex'd? Would you ex them if you were their SP?
And again what will the church look like if it take the hard line you suggest? It seems to me that it is actually not taking such a hard line and is becoming more tolerant of respectful descent.

Time to throw out the tares. The September Six episode was a proud moment in LDS history.

What core, established doctrines (that which would define one as an "orthodox" Mormon) does she accept as true? What does she decline to accept?
