Some dudes just can't stand that she is more popular than they are.

Droopy wrote:More power to her for wanting to keep some connection to the Church, but her desire to claim "believing" Mormon status is an attempt to eat her Mormon cake and have it, as well as confuse and obfuscate to others both within and without the Church just what being a Latter day Saint actually means and what constitutes authentic discipleship and "faithfulness" within that framework, and she has already settled down within the Great and Spacious Building far too comfortably to be, in any sense, as an authentic voice of "Mormonism."

And she must make her bed and lie in it while she is tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine that kicks the anthill.

Droopy, what are you're thoughts on mixed metaphors qua mixed metaphors?

brade wrote:The Church's positions are always good and any embarrassing positions are only the positions of individuals. Next.

Individuals like:

Brigham Young
Harold B. Lee
Mark E. Petersen
Bruce R. McConkie
Joseph Smith (under his pen name, Nephi)
Spencer W. Kimball
Joseph Fielding Smith
John Taylor
Willford Woodruff
George F. Richards

You know......just random individuals going off reservation and just sayin' stuff........

But look, Brade, at least President Monson isn't going to embarrass the Church. Of course, that's because doesn't actually say anything.

Even when Monson works hard to avoid embarrassment by saying nothing he cocks the job up. Remember Arthur Patton?

The statement officially abandons as “speculation” or “opinion” a number of rationale for the ban propounded as doctrine by nineteenth- and twentieth-century Mormon leaders.

She's wrong. The Church never specified which statements are opinion and still publishes significant official doctrine regarding the matter of the ban to which I have often made reference.

As usual you are wrong bcspace.

The Church (via President Newsroom who speaks officially on behalf of the Church) stated in its pronouncement over Bottgste that it didn't know why the ban was put in place and any other statement purporting to explain why was just personal speculation and opinion.

Which is why I am right. It's only the full reason, as the doctrine states, which is not known. In this case, it's why it began in the Church. The doctrine remains that it was Divinely appointed, that it's been around since the time of Adam, and that it's based on lineage and that just is justified by other scriptural examples.

I believe the published doctrine on the Lamanite curse also provides further details, but that's just my own speculation.

Now if only you could show when where how who and why the Priesthood Ban was instigated in the 1800's...
