You are so full of the love of Christ, aren't you.
What on earth this has to do with anything I've said, I've no idea.
Seriously, I believe that all people (aside from violent criminals) deserve freedom and security.
They
have it, in a country such as this, and it was given to them by those who appreciate and comprehend the concept "freedom." Those, however, who are desirous to give away both their own and other's freedom in the name of security, ultimately lose both, and are in no position to expect either for themselves at that point. They deserve what they have brought upon themselves. As Benjamin Franklin once said, "They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Liberty, in other words, is a moral and intellectual responsibility to guard and hold sacred. If a people choose to abandon it (just as the ancient Nephites choose to abandon it for pride, avarice, carnal indulgence, and materialism), they also abandon the security that itself can only be guaranteed by a society governed and populated by a critical mass of moral people, for a moral people are the only people that can hold on to liberty and a liberal democratic social and political order for any substantial length of time.
I come from a proud military family that contains many members, not the least of which being my father, who have actually served this country and agree with my statement, but what would they know?
So do I, and I don't know what they know, but I do know that simply because one has served one's country in the military, that does not make one a good political philosopher or sound thinker, per se.
One could point to John McCain for clear evidence of the essential truth of this (or Wesley Clark).
