bcspace, is, of course, lying. The first presidency, the 12, the 70s, temple presidents, mission presidents and others are all paid. The higher your position, the greater your salary.

Aren't the first presidency, the 12 and 70's "providing spiritual guidance to the community" any time they give talks or write articles for church publications? If they're not providing spiritual guidance what is the point of having prophets, seers and revelators? As I understand prophets "spiritual guidance" is their reason for being, don't recall any prophets called to an administrative duty divorced from guidance.

No. Those who are paid aren't really the ministry. They aren't typically directly involved face to face with shepherding the flock which is too big for so few to handle.

Nearly one year after earthquakes and an ensuing tsunami devastated Japan, Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Elder Donald L. Hallstrom of the Presidency of the Seventy visited the country and offered a message of hope and love.

Over 12 days in February, Elder Oaks and Elder Hallstrom, accompanied by their wives, Sister Kristen Oaks and Sister Diane Hallstrom, traveled through the Asia North Area, stopping at Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Sendai, and Tokyo, as well as many coastal cities in the Tohoku area.

In an article by the Church News, Elder Oaks explained one purpose of the trip: “We sought to give comfort following the terrible disaster and tsunami that occurred just about a year ago and also to give the teaching and testimony we always give when meeting with missionaries and members of the Church.”

Elder Oaks and other Church leaders met with Japanese Latter-day Saints, missionaries, and others and encouraged them to “look for the way that the Lord will consecrate your affliction for your gain.”

Although we do not know why tragedies happen to some of us, he said, we do know that the Lord will strengthen us in times of need to help us reach our divine potential through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Dallin H Oakes gets paid a salary modestly equivalent to a senior executive in a multi billion dollar corporation for doing things like this.
All of his and his wife's expenses and incidentals were put on the tab of the widows mite.

The Church does have a paid clergy.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles visited members, missionaries, and investigators in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, and Poland during his visit to Central Europe from March 3 to 12, 2012. Also in attendance was Elder Gérald J. Caussé of the Seventy, who serves in the Europe Area Presidency. Both leaders were accompanied by their wives.

Many of those who met with Elder Christofferson traveled 8 to 10 hours to get to their country’s capitals, where the meetings were held.

Many reported that the conference was a revelatory experience for them and that their testimonies were strengthened and renewed. In his messages, Elder Christofferson reinforced basic gospel principles.

At the Saturday session of the conference in Poland, on March 3, Elder Christofferson taught about the gift of the Holy Ghost and encouraged members to strive to receive God’s gifts so that they could better serve their neighbors and receive power to become His servants. Elder Christofferson said: “Pray for spiritual gifts. Ask the Lord to bestow upon you all the gifts that you need for this particular time in your life.”

Elder Todd got paid for doing this.

The paid ministry of the church would include the First Presidency, The Quorum of the Twelve, The Presidency of the Seventy, The First and Second Quorum of the Seventy, The Presiding Bishopric, and the Presiding Patriarch.

Not mention the other perks...

The Third through Eighth Quorums of the Seventy aren't paid positions and neither are the general presidencies of the Young Men, Women, Relief Society, Sunday School and Primary. In times past the leaders for the Young men and Sunday school came from General Authorities but that changed in 2004.

Of course they aren't... some of those people are women.
