Utah parents receive none of the lobbyist perks and pay, so why should they support something ultimately to the detriment of their children?
Uhhhhh... because they're in Utah, presumably of their own free will?
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
Under current law, LDS parents who interpret the CHI the way you apparently do can opt their kids out of sex education in the public schools in Utah. Parents who do not follow the ignorant rantings of octogenarian religious zealots are not forced into having their kids suffer a subpar education.
You're under the erroneous assumption that the government can supply a superior education.
The majority of the parents in the schools were against this bill. When faced with the option of having their kids opt out of the sex education program, the majority of parents allowed their children to attend.
If there was an overwhelming amount of opt-outs, then I would see evidence that the people of Utah were actually for this bill. That is not what the evidence showed.
GOP Governor Gary Herbert of Utah is a better Governor than Democratic Governor Jerry Brown of California. While GOP Governor Gary Herbert did the right thing by vetoing this bill from the far right Legislature of Utah, Democratic Governor Jerry Brown signs nearly all of the bills from the far left Legislature of California.
