Only tangentially. What happened was pedophile priests raped underage boys. The boys who spoke up about it were called gay, and in the 50s could be committed for any reason against their wills, and as punishment for speaking up against the Catholic Church they were castrated, supposedly as a way to cure them of being "gay."

They weren't actually gay, however. They were being punished to intimidate other victims into silence.

My response to that contains too many curse words so, this being the Terrestrial Forum, I will refrain.

It seems to me, if I remember my psych history, that homosexuality was once considered a mental illness. Like... back in the 50's.

With any luck at all, we've learned lots about lots of things, since the 50's.

(I am not defending the Catholic church or pedophile priests).
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

OK, now I'm pissed off.

Thank goodness for modern science that has already figured out that being gay is perfectly normal as is being straight. Which ever one you are, is, perfectly normal.

Anyone care to quote those horrible old LDS teaching (Joseph F. Smith & others) about birth control? Remember how using birth control was an evil thing and those members of the church who did it were teetering on the fence about to fall into hellfire? Now days, the church leaders don't really write or say much about the evils of birth control. In 50 years they won't be speaking or writing about the evils of being gay.

Oh well. I'm done with Mormonism. I paid enough money into that bloody cult to last a lifetime and obeyed those stupid rules and subjected myself to all that abuse. No more. I live for me!! And that includes regular masturbation, often, with NO GUILT and lot's of fornication! Yeah, bishop, I masturbate and fornicate!

Hell yeah! Kiss my ass, Boyd KKK Packer -- you son of a bitch. Go die in a fire, you bastard apostle of jezzus -- I hate you Packer-boy. And, if I ever happen to chance visit his grave, I'll walk right over it and spit. Maybe even kick his tombstomb. If no one is looking, I'll piss on his grave. Let the tyrant roll in it.

bcspace,

I hate to have to say this in the Terrestrial forum, my friend, but sometimes you just blow right through every boundary of civility and thereafter violate every tenet of reason, logic and common decency in sight.

Even with their long tradition of religiously based homophobia and associated science denial, I would say that there are very few folks in the Middle East who could even hold a candle to you.

bcspace is pro-science right up until the point where it starts to interfere with his bigotry.

Sexual orientation is the result of biological mechanisms operating in early human development. My homosexual LDS brothers and sisters did not decide to be gay or lesbian. Sexual orientation is not a choice. Sexual orientation is not a disease. It is not an addiction. It is not learned. And, the subject for another time, it is not subject to change.

It is my province to teach to the Church what the doctrine is. It is your province to echo what I say or to remain silent.

Is he still employed at BYU? Because that statement slaps the Brethren, especially Packer.

So very, very, true. And, I might add that homosexual relations can be very beautiful and fulfilling. For gays, the sun rises and sets on homosexual relations. I'm sure that homosexual sex is right up their with straight sex as far as enjoyment is concerned.

I'm glad that science has uncovered the truth of the matter. Straight people have nothing to fear or worry regarding gays living in the world. We do our own thing and want to be happy doing it.

I know beyond a shadow of all doubt that President Packer is an unenlightened man living with dark aged thoughts. I have no fear whatsoever that he could possibly be a real prophet. He's fake.
