I believe it. Here, in NC, it is not a well-discussed, or known topic, either.

Kishkumen wrote:The doctrine of Zion is what I really believed in as a missionary. It is one of the primary reasons I became so disillusioned and disappointed with the LDS Church as it actually existed in the world around me. The mall is the ultimate expression of the perversion of Zion. It is an abomination.

I remember Hugh Nibley expressed disgust over the idea of a Zion's Bank.

He even remarked how it was built just like an ancient temple.

Yep. I was a student of Nibley's, so to speak. Meaning, I took a couple of courses with him. I heard a number of such comments from him, and they made quite an impact on me.

Just saw video of a flaming fountain. Home to white salamanders? Does every trout have a seer stone in it? Let the paranoia begin.

I think that the City Creek Center epitomizes something that was once said by a very wise man: "You can buy anything in this world with money."

I've heard of him. He's a man of wealth and taste. But Jesus himself said something similar in Luke 16:9-11.

bc, you strike me as a very confused person, although I get the sense that you feel perfect clarity.

I can't decide if I have evolved so much out of Mormonism, that Mormonism seems so different to me...or, if the church itself has evolved and changed that accounts for how different it appears to me now?

Either way, I am glad the church spent a lot of money on a big downtown mall...a "City Center". I hope it contributes to the overall prosperity and dynamism of Salt Lake City and Utah.

As Utah goes, so goes the church, so investing in yourself is probably the best investment. Is a flashy mall worse than "prudent" investments...whatever those may be? Who knows?

I personally like the energy and vibrancy of big cities. I love the history and culture they have accumulated. I hope Salt Lake keeps striving for that big city feel.

President Monson dedicated the new Provo offices of Zions Bank.

I wish the Church had chosen to name this spectacular complex the Gordon B. Hinckley Mall instead of City Creek. It would have helped honor the late Church President. City Creek sounds so secular.

Kishkumen wrote:I don't see that there is any excuse for this mall. The whole matter is disgusting. Babylon masquerades as Zion in Salt Lake City, and the one organization, the Church of Jesus Christ, that should have known better, made it happen.

As far as I am concerned, this is a sign of the apostasy of the LDS Church. Now it is not just more human than divine; it is more machine than man.

And just what would Kishkumen, of all people, know about Zion, or about divinity, what is part of Babylon and what isn't, or spiritual things in general?

(Why is a shopping mall necessarily a part of "Babylon?" Why can't it just be a shopping mall? Is shopping necessarily evil? How should I go about getting the things I need to live and enjoy a materially comfortable life? If no shopping, then how, pray tell me? Should I make my own DVD player? Clothes? Shoes? luggage? dinnerware?)

Trying out for MormonVoices, Droopy? This is a lot milder than your usual approach.
