Uncle Dale,

Namaste! and no, I never did make it out that way, although Mustang proper--really the whole Annapurna region--is probably my favorite part of Nepal.

What brought you to the (magnificently beautiful) sticks way out on the edge of the world? Were you trekking, or something else?

three years with cholera, a wife and an addiction to lentil soup.

Uncle Dale,

It just so happens I am leaving Nepal on Saturday after a lengthy (7-year) stay here, studying at a monastic college in Boudhanath. There is an "Open Mic" night event on Friday, and I was wondering if it would be all right by you if I brought a couple of your poems along?

No problem, Samantabhadra-ji.

When I used to circumambulate the stupa at Boudha, I usually did it
by walking the wrong-way-around (Bon fashion). You probably won't
want to mention that at your Friday talk.

Also, as it happens I will shortly be hanging out on the beautiful beaches of Greece, enjoying the sun and maybe the occasional riot. So don't worry about me at least!

Maybe you could lecture the greeks on the corruption in their churches. You will go over very well with the natives.

Crazy much?

by the way, at least they admit to their history. Can't say that about the mo's now can ya?

I find it very hypocritical that someone would come on a Mormon board, bash the Mormon church, and not see the corruption in the catholic church. I have the same feeling toward our resident protestant on the board.

I can't speak for the creators of MormonLeaks.com, Uncle Dale seems to have his own agenda, and who knows what motivates the others on this board. But the reason why I care about this sort of thing is because I believe that the Salt Lake church is a fundamentally corrupt and evil organization, maybe a half-step above Scientology--or maybe not, because I haven't seen any evidence that Scientologists have any actual magic power.

Of course, you have your own opinion. But I see the Mormon church teaching good life principles for people to live by. Now of course, one can follow these principles or not, but the principles are sound.

You also must realize that Buddhism is not without corruption and it is certainly not without fault. We only need to look at how buddhist societies have developed without the buddhist concepts of social justice and its impact on the buddhist meaning of suffering.

And yet you fail to see the distinction.

The Catholic Church recognizes and admits it's history, whereas the mo's try to hide and rewrite theirs.

by the way, I wouldn't exactly call this a Mormon board. Aren't you the one that is always bemoaning how "anti" this board is?

You are also the one who brought the Catholic Church into a conversation about the Mormon church. Can you say apples and oranges?

Get a grip dude, or at least some medication.

If the guy is studying Tantra in Kathmandu, he has plenty of
diverse examples to consider.

On the other hand, I doubt that it can be said that there is any
"one true Buddhism" that today stands in need of restoration.

Whatever Gautama had to say about reality, it wasn't much.
Whatever early communities were established, they were human.

The essence of Buddhism is not found in an eight-fold-path,
nor in sutras, nor in meditation, nor in merit, nor in compassion,
nor in proper conduct.

That essence is found within your self -- with the realization
that such a self is a misreading of what truly is.

ANY attempt to explicate that realization is, by its very
definition, corruption.
