I tried that once a few years back.

During half-time of the football game I was watching I switched the channel over to conference to see what was going on. It just so happened that a new speaker, a female, was being introduced. Some gal named Julie Beck. I thought, "This could be interesting." What a train wreck!! Fortunately my young daughter was coloring in her coloring book and wasn't paying attention to the words coming from Beck's mouth. She asked if we could turn the channel so we ended up watching Hannah Montana. Strangely...Hannah gave out much better advice.

Experiment done.

That proves it, per why me's methodology: Hannah Montana deserves 10% of your increase!

I think that the star of that show may have needed Beck's advice if we see that star today and her troubles. From the wiki:

Later in 2010, TMZ released a video of Cyrus, then 16, giving Adam Shankman, producer of The Last Song, a lap dance at the film's wrap party.[160][161][162] Cyrus's father defended her actions, saying Miley was just "having fun" and that "it's what people her age do".[163] Later that year in December, TMZ released a video of Cyrus, which took place five days after her 18th birthday at her Los Angeles home, in which she is seen smoking from a bong. She claimed she was smoking the psychoactive plant salvia divinorum, although this has not been confirmed by anybody but Cyrus herself.[164][165][166] Salvia is legal in the state of California, and Cyrus was of legal age at the time the video was shot.[167] Cyrus's father expressed his sadness regarding the matter on Twitter, saying, "Sorry guys. I had no idea. Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. I'm so sad. There is much beyond my control right now".[168][169]

In a video obtained by The Daily, taking place at Cyrus' 19th birthday party at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, Cyrus went to the microphone and addressed the crowd. Immediately after her Bob Marley-themed birthday cake had been brought out, Cyrus said, "You know you're a stoner when your friends make you a Bob Marley cake. You know you smoke way too much f****n' weed."[170] One week later, Cyrus' representative stated that Cyrus was just being a "smart-ass" and that the Bob Marley cake had just been an "inside joke" with Cyrus and her friends, as Cyrus' friend, Kelly Osbourne had been calling her "Bob Miley" since Cyrus' 2010 salvia incident

I would argue that before giving an address in front of such a large group of people some degree of error checking should be done. But yes mistakes are made. So I think now the question is if the church will do anything to correct the mistake. Will they omit it from the Ensign edition or will it become 'official doctrine'? Will they issue a correction like newspapers do or will they allow the membership to believe this story is accurate?

I don't really care one way or another. I think the talks of this conference were good and on target. If one listens carefully one will get a good picture what it means to be LDS. And the messages were good. Now whether one follows the counsel..well...that is a different matter. But I see nothing wrong in the messages.

Who was the guy in the afternoon session who talked about the unnamed scholar during the McKay administration who said the Book of Mormon was such good Hebrew, he joined the Church?

Perhaps DCP or Royal Skousen would know:

Now consig, I have a homework assignment for you...are you ready?..listen to the conference without trying to find a negative. Try to listen to the messages and see if any advice is good for you as a human being. And let us know.

Now why-me, I have a challenge for you...are you ready?

My BS meter pegged when that lie fell from his lips.

During his talk, at about and hour and twenty five minutes into the second saturday session, is where he claims this.

He said it was while he was on his mission.

He was born September 8, 1940, so this would be what 1958-59???

Wait...I am really confused...Port, you were listening to conference?

Um...considering your feelings about the Church, your abject objection to the Church, and the fact that you want your kids to have nothing to do with the Church, may I ask WHY you were watching conference???

I did a drive by of desnews and sltrib saw a couple of nuggets, parsed the video of the talks and posted it here.

I am just doing a public service of calling BS where I see it and the Mormon conference center was a barn this weekend!

The Mormon approach to objective truth.
"And the human knew the source of life, the woman of him, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, 'I have procreated a man with Yahweh.'" Gen. 4:1, interior quote translated by D. Bokovoy.

Now P-P, I think that it was more than that. I think that you were listening more intently than you letting us believe. I least I hope so. I would hate to see you just cherry pick away and quickly post the cherry picks as well thought out posts.

I think that you were rather impressed with the talks during conference.
