Where is Shades then Liz? Why it it just up to him? He botched it big time letting Darrick go on so long. To ban Jersey Girl over this is just idiotic.

It is, indeed, their right. That's not the point. They are free to do whatever they want with this board. Similarly, we are free to not participate.

Like it or not, Shades is the board owner. If he wants to ban someone, he can.
I don't agree with it, and have been extremely vocal about my disagreement of it in the Moderator Forum.
Where is he at the moment? I have no idea.
The only thing I can do at this point is make my views known. If I take it upon myself to unban Jersey Girl, then all Shades has to do is ban her again when he gets back on the board later today. What good would that do? His Admin powers override mine.

Jason Bourne wrote:Personally I think Shades judgement regarding Darrick was very poor. To allow him to rant on and on and threaten and such as long as he did was foolish. So no I don't think it is just their right to decide on this. Darrick would never have been banned if their had not been a large complaint thread about it.
I assume Darrick would not have been banned even after the complaint thread, it took Jersey Girl having the balls to stand up to the whole mess, with the board ownership knowing that they were going to have to answer to the ISP about the complaint. I assume Jersey Girl forced their hand.
She's one of the family ... very bad choice shades.

Re: unban Jersey Girl
I would just like to make it known that I would like to see Jersey Girl unbanned.
I take it seriously that she threatened the board. I don't believe that was wise of her. However, I can forgive her for acting a little rashly given the alarming amount of sexual harassment that she'd just endured from Darrick.
Jersey Girl is a reasonable person. If you ask her to always give the board owners and moderators time to deal with issues before threatening to go to DreamHost, and make that a condition of unbanning her, I'm sure she'll comply.
(To be fair to Jersey Girl, I also think that Darrick should have been dealt with long before he got as far as he did. But, given the free-speech goals of this forum, I can understand why this was a difficult decision for the mods to make.)
On a final note, I consider Jersey Girl a friend and I would very much miss her if she is no longer allowed to communicate with me here. I've known her from her Lady Sundancer days at ZLMB. She's offered me kind advice on parenting my special needs child and she's one of the few people that I've opened up to in private about something I've recently been struggling with. I realize that's all irrelevant to what she did here, but if personal appeals count for anything, there's mine.

Re: unban Jersey Girl
I have no knowledge of the particulars of the situation involving Jersey Girl, or why she is banned. I don't want to know, I do not have an interest.
I find Jersey Girl adds to MDB. I don't confuse her with any other poster. She brings a unique stance, to Mormonism and to the procedural issues here at MDB.
I would not presume to second guess Shades. Given his adamant defense of free speech and libertarian streak, Shades would most likely not silence someone without compelling reasons. I'm glad that someone (Shades) is willing to make these calls and I am glad that I am not the one--few decisions are clear cut in life, and I'd begin second guessing myself almost as soon as I made a decision.

I happened to be on that thread when this happened, though I am sure I don't know all the facts. But I do know Jersey Girl fairly well, at least enough to evaluate her character sufficiently to satisfy me. I will not maintain a presence here if Jersey Girl is permanently banned. You can have your sycophantic back slapping.
The Brackite very much wants for Jersey Girl to get un-banned, and he very much wants for Hoops to continue to stay here.

Obviously. But we are free to piss and moan about it too. My main point is he aggravated the issue by tolerating Darricks rants. Part of me thinks he did so because he found Darrick amusing.
I don't agree with it, and have been extremely vocal about my disagreement of it in the Moderator Forum.
Thank you.

well he needs to come discuss this whenever he shows up.

I don't expect you to unilaterally unban Jersey Girl.

For what it's worth, I think that men have a tendency to underestimate the impact of humiliating sexual harassment on women.

I can say with a high degree of confidence this isn't true.Jason Bourne wrote: Darrick would never have been banned if their had not been a large complaint thread about it.
