Helen Mar Kimball at 14 was sealed to Joseph at her father’s request. Joseph told her “‘If you will take this step, it will ensure your eternal salvation & exaltation and that of your father’s household & all of your kindred.” Some say she was manipulated by this great promised but she too became part of this Holy Order in which all the members received their second anointing so their calling and elections made sure.
Posterfromanotherboard, have you ever wondered about this strange route to salvation and exaltation? This promise made to Heber Kimball, his family and all their descendants to receive these indulgences in return for their consent and Helen's acquiescence to marry Joseph Smith has always struck me as being an extremely different pathway than everyone else needs to take.
Did Joseph Smith actually have the power to grant salvation and exaltation? Did he regard the agreement to marry this teenager as performing good works without the formality of all that ordinance stuff?
The more I think about this type of thing the more I conclude the Mormon church is guilty of the same things we accuse the catholic church of: Sale of indulgences The obsession with wealth and the trappings thereof, just look at the mall.

This applies equally to those people sealed in marriage in the temple. Sin your heads off and you still get in, just don't kill anyone innocent...

Yes, I've discussed this before - Joseph's offer amounted to a sexualized form of Catholic indulgences. But when we do it, it's revelation, not apostasy. :)

It's only sicker when the perpetrator doesn't realize it's a trick but is so megalomaniacal that he truly thinks that a divine, all powerful being will in fact give the promised salvation in exchange for sex with the perpetrator.
I know defenders think that it makes JSJr look better if he did not have the mens rea for fraud in doing this. I think it makes JSJr look worse, like a narcissistic cannibal.
All her descendants huh....A free pass?....Makes me want to check my DNA a little closer to scan for some Kimball blood. Ya know, I think I hid that certificate behind the Big Mac machine.....
