My Support for Romney for US President

Post by _KevinSim »

Four years ago my wife and I had two cars, one she usually drove and one I usually drove. I wanted to show my support for John McCain, so I bought a McCain bumper sticker and put it on my car.

This time around, due to our recent economic situation, our only vehicle is a single van, that my wife drives probably more often than I do; before I put a bumper sticker on our van, I should probably discuss the matter with her.

But I wanted to show some support for my presidential candidate, so I decided to put that support in my signature.

What I say there is completely true. I never set out to support the LDS candidate. Actually I originally supported Jon Huntsman, not because he was LDS, but rather because he was the most moderate Republican candidate, and I'm a moderate, not a conservate (my allegedly conservative faith notwithstanding). When Huntsman started foundering in the polls, I honestly considered voting for Obama, because I just couldn't bring myself to vote for the extreme conservatives the other Republicans seemed to be.

I definitely didn't want to vote for Romney, because the last thing I wanted to appear to do was to go from one LDS candidate to another LDS candidate.

But when talking about my dilemma to a lady who I have a lot of trust for, she pointed out that, yes, Huntsman was the most moderate of the Republican candidates, but Romney was the next most moderate of those candidates. That got me thinking, and I eventually changed my mind. I know Romney claims he's currently running as a conservative, but I still think that a formerly moderate man who is running as a conservative is better than candidates who have been conservative all their political lives.

I will not vote for Romney because he is a tool..... and he is big government. I will vote for a 3rd party or a write in.

SteelHead, by tool do you mean an object that other people can use to accomplish a task? If so, who are the people that will use Romney, and what task do you think they will attempt to use him for?

No by tool I mean:

tool: One who lacks the mental capacity to know he is being used.

or better

tool: Contrary to what many people (usually tools) think, being a tool has nothing to do with being easily manipulated. Those people are simply "suckers". In fact, tools often take life too seriously, and therefore try too hard to manipulate others and to win everything, but always playing by the rules of society. Intellectual pursuits are not of any interest to a tool, and people who are interested in them are "stuck-up" or "faggy".
(Both are from urban dictionary)

But it has more to do with his flip flopping, telling anyone what he thinks they want to hear, and his pro government policies.

I will vote for the best option to beat Obama to the right of the political spectrum. That means Romney in this case. If Santorum's unlikely plan were to work, I will vote for Santorum. Besides getting rid of Democrats, it's all about getting rid of Obamacare and nominating conservative judges to the bench. No Democratic president is going to nominate anyone but a left wing-activist so I have no hesitation making conservatism a requirement.

As for bumper stickers, I keep my stated political affiliation profile low and incentive to damage my cars at a minimum. That is my main worry about having voted in my state's GOP caucus this year. I can now be identified by party and thus I will change it back to IND. next year.

Voting Democrat at any level or anything to the left of them is incompatible with LDS doctrine in virtually every way conceivable.

As I am in Texas it doesn't matter who I vote for. The state will vote for whoever emerges as the GOP candidate. I will, however vote for who I think best represents me. So either Ron Paul, some libertarian write in, or the constitution party candidate if he is on the ballot (and not in that order).

I am also tired of the establishment candidates, see little difference between the parties and would like to throw most of the bums that are currently in office out of office. Professional politicians were never the desire of the framers, but they are what we have, and they are all cockroaches.

Romney has no dignity. I would be ashamed to see him president.

How do you determine whether he is conservative or moderate or liberal?

Depending on what it takes to win whatever election he has faced, he has claimed to be both more liberal than Ted Kennedy, and more conservative than Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.
