14,000,000 should equate to circa 500 attending Sacrament Meeting in each congregation throughout the world.

The average attendance in my Stake is less than 100 people per Sacrament meeting.

The Church doesn't produce information about attendance because it isn't Faith promoting. The only insight into the claim of 14,000,000 members is the fact that Elder Jensen confirmed members were going inactive 'in droves'.

My exwife recently married a nonMormon and is having lots of happy sex and has dropped the church. My three kids have also dropped the church.

I'm so grateful for my many blessings and that my children have made the right choice. Thank my lucky stars -- the Mormon church is on the bottom of everyone's list.

If they all resigned, they are not included in the 14 million. If they haven't resigned, it is not the church's fault to have them on the rolls. Glad your exwife is having happy sex and she is having happy sex because she left the church. Was she having happy sex when she was married to you? If so, it is obvious that it does have to do with church membership.

Now consider the church baptizes over 300,000 a year in convert and children. Most converts stop going, so losing track of them is common. A good percentage of that 14 million is probably already dead.

The 7th Day Adventists manage to keep membership numbers that reflect real attendance. The JWs actually understate their numbers.

When I was active, every now and then I would hear about a convert baptism that all were invited to. Sometimes I would even see the converts when they were confirmed in sacrament meeting instead of right after their baptism. I don't remember ever seeing them again. The members are partly to blame for not being more welcoming. I always wondered where all the converts go. I've heard that most of the 14 million are outside the US, where activity rates are really low. I would estimate there are maybe 4 million active American Mormons, and maybe 2 million active non-US Mormons. But still, if you figure a conservative estimate of 25% of active members are full tithe payers, and estimate an average family size of 5 and an average tithing contribution of $5000/year/family, that comes to $1.5 billion per year in tax free revenue. That's not too shabby.

I think part of the problem with the accuracy of the numbers is that most people who go inactive don't know and don't think about the resignation process.

They just drift away and for them, that's that.
The fact that the Church still counts them as members is 'over egging the pudding'.

The Mormon church has 14 million people that either attend on a regular basis, seldom, or NEVER.

The Pew Research poll has 77% claiming once a week attendance or greater. Anecdotal experience shows Sacrament Meeting attendance to be closer to 50%. I think a fair portion of the difference is that 9am block where many people come in late.
