How well will Romney answer the BBC's Mormon questions?

Post by _sock puppet »

In The Mormon Candidate, Jeffrey Holland does very poorly at answering tough questions about Mormonism put to Holland by the BBC's John Sweeney.

If asked of Holland in a documentary piece about Romney, these same questions will no doubt hound Romney over the next 7 months.

Are there better ways to answer Sweeney's questions than how Holland did?

Yes. Holland was clearly unprepared and stuck with the limited thinking (and often shockingly uninformed) that the current Mormon leadership has.

Is there a list of these questions, and Holland's responses, that I can read online somewhere? If so, will you post a link to it?

The answers would depend on if Romney answers as a politician or a Mormon. If he wants to get elected, assuming anyone would ask him those questions during the course of the campaign, he should avoid any specific answer to direct questions about his Mormon beliefs. The most effect response would be to change the question into a generic religious question. Unlike Holland, he has no obligation to provide a direct answer.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

I agree and Romney should be prepared and look forward to attacks and questions like this. A skilled politician should easily be able to turn the tables on a questioner, make themselves distinct from the Church in ways they may disagree and wish to engender favor with certain groups in the population, and could do himself a lot of good by taking on these types of questions. I don't believe his handlers (or Romney himself) possesses those skills however.

Here is a clip, to video not text, that pieces together just these questions and Holland's answers. It's worth your time, Dr Shades, to watch.

I just watched the clip again and am amazed at how full of crap Holland is. How amazing that God translated the Book of Abraham for Joseph Smith and came up with the Book of Abraham and yet Holland (prophet, seer, and revelator) has no idea how he did it and confesses that he doesn't know Egyptian. Well, here we learn that neither Holland or Joe Smith knew Egyptian. Let's leave God out of the picture because the Book of Abraham is anything but Egyptian.

I'll bet fat Tommy-boy Monson who holds the keys of the kingdom has no idea how Joe Smith did it either. Mormon prophets sure are dodos. You'd think they read a few books and get some real knowledge about their Book of Abraham fiasco.

No time to read. They're too busy being fawned over by sycophantic members that think the FP/12 are something they are not--you know, it is too sacred to talk about being phonies.

Yes. But I guarantee you Romney won't answer them while on the campaign trail or holding political office. No need.

Right. They are driven around by stake presidents and then taken to their homes and fed wonderful meals dutifully prepared by the SP's wife. Apostles of Mormonism are in it for life. Lots of meals, free lodgings, and brainwashed people who worship the ground they walk on.

But we KNOW they really aren't prophets with any special gifts. Heck, Holland can't even read Egyptian let alone translate it!
