Wow! I wish I knew where to find just a few gold bars from that cache! Surely they wouldn't miss just a few bars. :lol:

Oh dear god.

He must be talking about the "Dream Mine" or "Relief Mine".

It is was a scam back then, yet many members still believe it is real.

If your friend really believes in this he is a grade A wacko.

Actually, it's not that mine. He says it's a mine called the "Lost Rhodes Mine" that is supposedly somewhere in the Uinta mountains.

I got an e-mail from the same friend, following up on our phone conversation. I am quoting part of it here:

These are some of the prophecies that I believe are soon to be fulfilled. I believe it will be in my lifetime. I even wonder if Mitt Romney becoming president is somehow part of the Lord's plan in bringing these things to pass.

And the lord of the vineyard said unto one of his servants: Go and gather together the residue of my servants, and take all the strength of mine house, which are my warriors, my young men, and they that are of middle age also among all my servants, who are the strength of mine house, save those only whom I have appointed to tarry;

And go ye straightway unto the land of my vineyard, and redeem my vineyard; for it is mine; I have bought it with money.

Therefore, get ye straightway unto my land; break down the walls of mine enemies; throw down their tower, and scatter their watchmen.

And inasmuch as they gather together against you, avenge me of mine enemies, that by and by I may come with the residue of mine house and possess the land.

And the servant said unto his lord: When shall these things be?

And he said unto his servant: When I will; go ye straightway, and do all things whatsoever I have commanded you;

And this shall be my seal and blessing upon you—a faithful and wise steward in the midst of mine house, a ruler in my kingdom.

And his servant went straightway, and did all things whatsoever his lord commanded him; and after many days all things were fulfilled.

*******************************

Verily I say unto you, my friends, behold, I will give unto you a revelation and commandment, that you may know how to act in the discharge of your duties concerning the salvation and redemption of your brethren, who have been scattered on the land of Zion;

Being driven and smitten by the hands of mine enemies, on whom I will pour out my wrath without measure in mine own time.

For I have suffered them thus far, that they might fill up the measure of their iniquities, that their cup might be full;

And that those who call themselves after my name might be chastened for a little season with a sore and grievous chastisement, because they did not hearken altogether unto the precepts and commandments which I gave unto them.

But verily I say unto you, that I have decreed a decree which my people shall realize, inasmuch as they hearken from this very hour unto the counsel which I, the Lord their God, shall give unto them.

Behold they shall, for I have decreed it, begin to prevail against mine enemies from this very hour.

And by hearkening to observe all the words which I, the Lord their God, shall speak unto them, they shall never cease to prevail until the kingdoms of the world are subdued under my feet, and the earth is given unto the saints, to possess it forever and ever.

But verily I say unto you, I have decreed that your brethren which have been scattered shall return to the lands of their inheritances, and shall build up the waste places of Zion.

For after much tribulation, as I have said unto you in a former commandment, cometh the blessing.

Behold, this is the blessing which I have promised after your tribulations, and the tribulations of your brethren—your redemption, and the redemption of your brethren, even their restoration to the land of Zion, to be established, no more to be thrown down.

Behold, I say unto you, the redemption of Zion must needs come by power;

Therefore, I will raise up unto my people a man, who shall lead them like as Moses led the children of Israel.

For ye are the children of Israel, and of the seed of Abraham, and ye must needs be led out of bondage by power, and with a stretched-out arm.

And as your fathers were led at the first, even so shall the redemption of Zion be.

Therefore, let not your hearts faint, for I say not unto you as I said unto your fathers: Mine angel shall go up before you, but not my presence.

But I say unto you: Mine angels shall go up before you, and also my presence, and in time ye shall possess the goodly land.

… the strength of my house, my young men and the middle aged—Gather yourselves together unto the land of Zion, upon the land which I have bought with money that has been consecrated unto me.

… And inasmuch as mine enemies come against you to drive you from my goodly land, which I have consecrated to be the land of Zion, even from your own lands…, ye shall curse them;

And whomsoever ye curse, I will curse, and ye shall avenge me of mine enemies.

And my presence shall be with you even in avenging me of mine enemies, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

Let no man be afraid to lay down his life for my sake; for whoso layeth down his life for my sake shall find it again.

And whoso is not willing to lay down his life for my sake is not my disciple.

… Behold this is my will; ask and ye shall receive; but men do not always do my will.

… Therefore, as I said unto you, ask and ye shall receive; pray earnestly that peradventure my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., may go with you, and preside in the midst of my people, and organize my kingdom upon the consecrated land, and establish the children of Zion upon the laws and commandments which have been and which shall be given unto you.

I believe the "redemption of Zion" is going to live up to the prophecy that says it will be "a marvelous work and a wonder." What a blessed time to be alive!

So there you have it.

I really don't know what to make of it, to tell you the truth.

I mean, does he look at this stuff from the D&C as some kind of metaphor for the church's continuing (apparent) growth in numbers, and seeming to be growing in acceptance and respect------------"mainstreaming" as they say?

Or does he (and others like him?) really believe in some kind of future literal fulfillment of these prophecies that were supposed to be fulfilled in the summer of 1834—at least in the minds of the 200 or so men who marched 2000 miles (round trip) from Ohio to Missouri to "redeem Zion"?

Has anyone else heard talk like this where you live? Especially people in the "Mormon Corridor". What's the scuttle-but, if any, along these lines? I've lived in many different areas in "Deseret", but I don't remember ever hearing this kind of twist on last days prophecies. My friend seems to be saying that he believes Joseph Smith (or maybe someone claiming to be Joseph Smith?) will come back/reappear/whatever and organize the "armies of Israel", march to Missouri, conquer the "goodly land", and "avenge me of my enemies".

I can hear the Tabernacle Choir singing: Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord, He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored …

Nope

No end of days issues where I live. No dream mine or some other pot of gold. Most the members of my ward don't know much about the proposed State of Deseret BY so desired. Most who do don't give it a thought. Many are excited about a Mormon maybe being president but they don't rave about it being the ushering in of some sort of LDS take over of the government.

But I live a long way from Utah where Mormons on that map are less than 1%.

You friend could be any one of the old guard around here.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
