And to add to this Why Me, here is an email received by a poster on RFM:

Email received this morning from the Relief Society Secretary:

Hello Everybody,

This is a reminder. Our ward has the church cleaning assignment this Saturday, the 14th, @ 8:00 am for everyone whose last names begin with the letter M, N, O. This is an assignment for the whole family, not just Relief Society. Remember to bring your vacuums, come to the stage area, and you will be given your assigned area(s).

If for any reason, you are unable to make it, ask another family to take your place.

Not a calling anymore, an assignment. I certainly wouldn't do it. Organization can spend $5 billion dollars to house high end uppity shops but can't afford to pay minimum wage to workers to clean the ward houses? And to boot - make them be temple worthy so you can get 10% of that minimum wage back?

Makes no sense at all. None.

I'm sure those starving African children will be overjoyed at the blessings being poured out on the residents of Salt Lake City.

Or the starving people in many american cities who are stuggling to get by. But salt lake has a nice new mall which is providing jobs for the youth and the young adults and for the pensioners. And soon clinton kelly will be there to provide some fashion tips. Not bad. But yea, downtown newark, new jersey is much better to walk around and enjoy the good life.

I'm sure this child is touched by the charitable gesture of building a mall in downtown SLC. Imagine all those teenager who will be helped by working at the food court!

In keeping with the restoration of the Church, Tarring and feathering will only occur if you try to shag our daughters.

Elder Oaks, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Quorum of the Twelve, officially welcomed Kirton McConkie to City Creek Center and offered a dedicatory prayer on the firm's new building at 50 E. South Temple.

So? Wasn't it Pres Monson that dedicated a bank a while ago? Why would you expect something different now?
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

CYenom wrote:Are you suggesting that there is some sort of issue with this that is not inline with the stated purposes of the church?

Let me remind you what the four-fold mission is.
  1. Proclaim the Gospel
  2. Redeem the Dead
  3. Perfect the Saints
  4. Care for the Poor and Needy

Like it or not, giving to and helping others is a basic tenet of our faith (see item 4 above).

Absolutely nothing about your post matches the reality of the issue under discussion on this thread.

Are you saying the millions of dollars the church spends on legal services in service of the for-profit businesses owned by the church somehow amounts to caring for the poor and needy?

I'd love to hear you expound on what you mean here.

And, for anyone who is interested, City Creek is doing remarkably well. It's exceeding expectations. I think that the complainers will soon be eating their words.

Numbers. Real numbers, or it's all just hot air. And while you're at it, please post the link to the church's annual report of income and expenditures. Thanks in advance.
