Re: unban Jersey Girl

Post by _Alter Idem »

I thought to check in on the board and of course, got sucked in by this thread because I couldn't believe that Jersey Girl had been banned. I thought it might be a long, drawn out April fools thread, but I don't think it is.
I'm trying to make sense of this;

Possibility number one--Dr. Shades has become the thing he loathed--he has become like the owners of the MADB board. If he would take this flimsy excuse to ban Jersey Girl, then I guess he got tired of having to deal with her challenging and criticizing his authority on his own board. That is what MADB mods did when they got tired of a frustrating poster, when opportunities to remove troublesome posters came, they'd often use the opportunity to weed out those who defied them.

But, I'd like to think that is not the actual reason.

Jersey Girl has been on the board since the beginning and she's one of the best posters here. I don't think you are a fool, and I'm hoping you aren't so threatened by her caustic challenges to your authority. So, I'm thinking there might be another explanation.

Maybe it is an elaborate drawn out April fools prank. Maybe you are letting posters here THINK she's banned for eternity so that you can add a little life into the board...and maybe get some more real, non-sockpuppety participation. If the latter is the true explanation, I'd say it worked--it got me to post again!

I'm going to hope the truth is closer to the second explanation. To be honest, MormonDiscussions needs her participation way more than she needs this board. It would be pretty sad if you drove away all your real, sensible posters because they felt they had to risk their physical well-being in order to allow you to make some kind of stand about 'free speech' and 'no censorship' on an internet message board. People do have to feel that the board owners understand and care about their concerns for their safety.

Thanks Liz, I don't know what it is about you guys here at MD, but I can't seem to leave for good--even when I wasn't posting, I'd still read sometimes. And thanks to the mods for fixing my login--it worked(though Shades may not be so happy about that now, since I'm criticizing him).

But, really, this banning Jersey Girl thing is unbelievable.

Shades, what is WRONG with you?????? Why don't you tell us it was all an elaborate April fools joke and then you won't have to try and justify and explain your actions--which do not make any sense to rational minds.

Because frankly, the other explanations do not put you in a good light. If I'm missing something then maybe you could elaborate.

That isn't even remotely close to why Jersey Girl was banned. What she did is not some "flimsy excuse." Its rationale is highly similar to one of the few other bannings that have happened and she was aware of this fact at the time. I don't see how Liz can Amen this. And to the extent people continue to agitate on her behalf, that is unfortunately all too like MADB's tendency to give one standard of treatment to personal friends while outsiders are treated differently. Not banning Jersey Girl would be like how Pahoran had a curious habit of never managing to get banned from ZLMB despite others receiving that treatment for similar behavior.

EA---I am Amen'ing the fact that Jersey Girl should not be banned. I am Amen'ing the fact that Shades needs to actually READ Jersey Girl's statement, explaining her intents, and actually CONVERSE with her.

I am Amen'ing the fact that this whole mess has gone on long enough, and needs resolution.

Alright. Then please TELL us exactly what she did that got her banned, and then you could also site the rule which she broke that warranted a permanent ban. I'm reasonable and I believe there are others here who are as well--if you can show just cause, I'll support Shade's decision.

However, if you expect posters here to just trust you had good reason and not question your authority, sorry, but I for one can't do that.

Also, you can't use an example of Pahoran to justify banning Jersey Girl if you won't show us exactly how her actions are the same as Pahoran's at ZLMB. If you can't do that, it is irrelevant to the discussion.

I have read the email she sent to shades. If her report of what happened is accurate then her banning is ludicrous. Simply ludicrous.

It has been about four days since she sent it. So what is shades going to do? A temporary ban is ok. Permanent no. And frankly EA, based on what I read you were part of the failure. You could have put Darrick on a temporary ban till things calmed down, at least from what I read in JGs letter.

So what does shades say to her letter?

If I am not mistaken your name on CAB begins with J. If so, you haven't changed much. By the way, was it you and the others who got Parker banned? I have heard a rumor that the exmormon catholics ganged up on him and reported him to the mods for banning. He was making too much sense. Now, I think there are two LDS posters left...newbies. But they will also be banned if they start scoring points.

So what does shades say to her letter?

Shades hasn't bothered to "read it in detail". He "skimmed it".

But, it is obvious that he has missed some major areas of miscommunication. I can understand that Shades may have been hurt due to the long-standing friendship that Jersey Girl and he share, if he honestly thought that Jersey Girl was going to sue the board.

But her email spells out, in honest detail, that that was not, and is not the case.

The only reason I have not posted her statement to the main board is because Jersey Girl has asked me not to. She would really like to have some type of dialogue with Shades first.

I understand that we all have lives outside of MDB, but I think that Shades owes someone who has been a friend, upward of 10 years, 15-20 minutes of his time to thoroughly read an email that took HER several hours to formulate.
