WTF!!!! Is this REAL WORK for an Apostle Part II
Since when did the Mormons start dedicating LEASED Buildings?
As the law firm of the LDS Church, Kirton McConkie was given the first option to lease the building, Hyde said.
Is this pandering to the Lawyers? Didn't Christian Jesus loath Lawyers for their inherent wickedness? And yet Mormon Jesus is kissing their asses?

I am a little lost on this. Some of us don't live in Happy Valley. Care to elaborate?

I think he's saying that he finds it bizarre that the Brethren blessed/dedicated a building that is only being leased by Kirton & McConkie. Normally the Brethren dedicate buildings that are meant to be permanent--e.g., temples, or BYU buildings that have been named after General Authorities. Here, though, it seems that Elder Oaks (or one of the Twelve) "dedicated" the offices of K &McC at City Creek, in spite of the fact that they are merely leasing the space. In other words, it seems like they are granting a special favor to these lawyers.

What, exactly, are the lawyers gaining from the brethren giving a building a prayer?
What is disturbing to me about this, though, is that based on the fact that dedicating buildings is normally done for, as you pointed out, temples and Church buildings, it appears that the brethren view City Creek as some sort of Church extension. There have been many pointed attempts to assure the membership that tithing dollars were not utilized in financing the City Creek Mall. A dedication suggests otherwise.

I'm not sure what they are "gaining," apart, of course, from the normal things one would expect from a blessing. I think, along with you and TMB, that the strange aspect of this is the fact that the Brethren would view a law firm as something meriting an ecclesiastical blessing in the first place. I guess it's just a sign of how important the GAs think these lawyers are?

Why not give Church attorney's a little boost, even in leased buildings? Might help keep settlement costs low next time one of those failure to report cases surfaces outside the Jell-O belt.
Plus it could keep criminal attorneys honest.

Dedication
Whenever The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints constructs a new building, there is a dedication ceremony held when the building is finished. The purpose of this ceremony is to set aside the building for the work of God. A Latter-day Saint dedication ceremony includes a special prayer designating the building for Church use and asking God to bless the structure and grounds. A dedication ceremony generally also includes music and talks from Church leaders. Attendance at the event is usually by invitation only and the length varies depending on the type of building being dedicated.
Mormon buildings that are dedicated include temples and meetinghouses, as well as places set aside for educational purposes, such as institutes, seminaries and buildings at Church-owned universities. Temples are always dedicated by a general authority, whereas a meetinghouse may be dedicated by a local Church leader. After a temple is dedicated, only Mormons in good standing may enter, but all other Church buildings are open to the public after they are dedicated.

Lord, you people are really sad human beings....
Anything that is to be for the work of the Lord is dedicated. Doesn't matter if it's outright owned or not.
People have been dedicating their HOMES forever, yet few have actually OWNED them.
There is nothing new here. You guys just can't stop belittling perfectly innocent and faithful activities can you?
Lord I thank God that I wasn't an anti-mormon for very long, because I saw the pure unadulterated EVIL and warped minds that you people engage in, like this example.
You would murder a religious person just so your child didn't have to learn about religion.
Think you wouldn't? You do it in word every day. Further, YOUR the kind of people that DID do it in the past. So you're a little more "civilized" now.... Your evil is still the same in the SOUL! :(

Will they be dedicating any space leased to banks that hold LDS church deposits?
