"I know the Church is twoo"
Re: "I know the Church is twoo"
Children bearing their testimonies with parent's whispering in their ear is not something I have ever approved of or encouraged.
The first time I bore my testimony, I was in the 6th grade. I had just finished reading the Book of Mormon from cover to cover for the first time, and really had a solid witness about the spirituality about what I had read. Shortly after I bore my testimony, I was called to be the President of my Beehive Class in YW.
My girls both bore their testimony for the first time at Girls' Camp, which I think is pretty "normal".
My son is 8 and has born his testimony yet. There is no pressure to do so.
I think that bearing your testimony should be a choice, and something you do because you want to do it.

And I agree. It's brainwashing. But look how it has been practiced so widely in Mormonism. At times I've seen it discouraged from the leadership but time and time again those kids kept leaping up with mommy or daddy guiding them by that old Mormon holy ghost -- and all by the power of the Mormon restoration! So much uninspired nonsense is uttered from the LDS pulpits. It's like a circus under a solid tent. I can easily invision elephants and monkeys in the Mormon chapel. It's always so loud too like wild animals in Africa. Mormon houses of worship are are like a religious horror film.

Liz, is there anything from your testimony in 6th grade that you believed to be true that has subsequently been accepted by you to not be true?

Actually, no. Reading the Book of Mormon brought me closer to the Savior, particularly after reading 3 Nephi. My testimony of Christ being the Savior for all mankind still holds true to this day.

Thanks Liz,
Do you believe the Book of Mormon to be what it is claimed?
I.e. a historical record of Gods dealings in the Americas with the literal ancestors of the native Americans, that was translated off golden plates by Joseph Smith.

I believe that the Book of Mormon is an inspired work, and a second testimony to Jesus Christ. Like the Bible, I think that whether or not every single character existed is immaterial to the message.

Isn't this very similar to the view the "Reorganized" Community of Christ church has taken on the Book of Mormon?
I personally think that the SLC Mormons are going to have to move in similar direction, that is that it is all just "message".

Thanks Liz.
Your answer sounds guarded, like you are uncomfortable with the answer. It sounds like you are not 100% believing in the description I gave of what the Book of Mormon is.
Do you believe Joseph's claims about the source of the Book of Mormon? (Golden plates, God transcribing through stones/spectacles)

I am honestly unsure. My sense is that it is more likely that Joseph simply authored the Book of Mormon through inspiration.

Thanks for your candidness.
This is the question I was leading to.
In the event that one disbelieves Joseph's claims about the Book of Mormon (which really means one believes Joseph didn't tell the truth) how is it possible for God to inspire through what is, effectively, a fraud?
